How do y’all use Square when selling in another shop?

I have an online shop. I’m in discussion to sell some of my products in a local salon. I’m trying to figure out how to incorporate Square. Would I just add the salon as another location?

Hi Rfr2021,

Per your post, I'm assuming you're planning to wholesale some of your products to another business.  If that's the case, perhaps just sending an invoice to the business would be the better way to go.  I don't believe you would want someone else's business location listed under your account.   Just a thought.

Do you own the Salon also?   Are you selling your Items to them so they can sell them?

I sell my products to other businesses at a discount for larger orders and quantities.  So once I sell them I charge them by Invoice in Square.  So once my other sellers pick up the items they pay for them right through my Square POS but I also have other information like their Local Sales tax number address and owners name plus contact information to show why I did not charge them sales tax.

I don’t own the salon. My niece does. She’s been a stylist for years and finally finished renovating a vacant building and owns her own salon now. (She rents booth spaces to other stylists also.) She mentioned having a spot for sales, like shampoos and salon-related products. I own an accessories boutique (handmade hair bows, handmade bow ties, earrings, beadable products, etc). We were talking and I’m meeting at her shop on Monday to discuss having a small spot for some of my products. We haven’t talked about any details or logistics yet. Since I’m not sure yet if she’s interested in buying wholesale or consignment, I was thinking about having my QR code made on a sign so people could “check out” on my website and it would handle the finance and inventory part. I’m not sure if that would work or what she’s thinking about though.

The problem I see, which is also the reason I do not use QR codes to sell items, is because you have to trust people to pay for said items.  Some people will others will not.  On top of that, your items are at your nieces business, what happens when people cant scan the QR code or only have cash.... lost sale.  I do not have Tap to pay on my phone, no venmo, no cash app, and I barely use PayPal unless its for an Ebay purchase.  Having your items at another business I would recommend either having her have a way to accept CC's there with a $50 reader and a Cell phone or tablet there.  And a Small Cash drawer for your sales and a receipt printer hooked to her network.  She can use her phone linked to your account as a 2nd location which would still keep inventory straight.  You can setup what she can access etc.  You can see each sale / Transaction etc.  But the best way is to have buy from you at a wholesale price (Family Cost) whatever you want and then you make a smaller % revenue to her, and she can sell your items for her profit.  This helps her out starting out, then when she gets low on inventory she can buy to restock which helps you out too.  She keeps her own inventory there and reorders from you.  So in her Square she has you listed as a Vendor and you have her Listed as a Wholesale customer.   Since you have not talked to her about it, you basically want your products in her store for Free and get all the profits from it by having the QR codes to have all sales back to you.

I had a small business try that with Coffee for my store, but I have a small coffee shop next to me.... conflict of interest, no incentive for me.

Another problem with Handmade products is when You make it and Sell it, you figure out a cost and Price to sell it for.  If you sell items for $10 and ask her to buy them for $8 there is not much room for markup for her to pay for Lights , Rent, etc.  People that sell on Etsy can do that since they do not have a retail building that requires rent, licensing, insurance etc.  So retail space has to help pay for those costs by way of profit.  So you may want to figure out a Wholesale price for her and show her how you have been selling them for $x.xx.... hopefully $x.xx will be high enough over your wholesale price to her.  She has to watch that your items do not walk out unpaid for.  Who is out the cost then?

Do not think I am deterring you from these ideas, I am just throwing problems I can see and wanting you to have answers ready if asked.   As for a QR code to pay for items, I have seen that with Square, but I never tried it.  To find out more about QR checkout before meeting your niece you can look here:

Good luck and let us know how it went.
