Why can't I enter the expiration date when manually entering a card?

[The title of this thread has been edited from the original: I am trying manually enter a credit card but it won’t allow me to enter the experation year]

I've moved your post to this thread as it sounds like what you're experiencing is related to the expiration date issue we had our engineers look into, @mdr_moore. Please take a moment to update the Square app on your device(s), and things should starting working as expected for you!

I'm not showing an update available in the app store, I was prompted to change my passwords, restarted the ipad just to see if that would help, no luck.  I still cannot manually type in and expiration date for ex: 01/24... not allowing the 2.  Help!    (for now I put it in on the virtual terminal but I can't do that every time)

Hey @Healthway,

 

Thanks for posting in the community. It definitely sounds like a software issue. Have you tried deleting the app and reinstalling it? Also, what iPad model do you have, and what iOS software version is it running? Updating the iOS can also be a great troubleshooting tip. Feel free to let me know by replying in this thread.

I can not enter number 2 in expiration date location when manually entering card number, so I can’t enter the card number for a sale.

Hey, @PegBruhn and @jbtneuro thank you for trying those steps. @Docwelton I am also jumping into this on behalf of Isabelle. Since the troubleshooting didn't work, I would recommend reaching out to our Support Team so they can take a closer look at what is going on over the phone. 

 

As a workaround in the meantime, say if you need to take payments before calling in, you can always take manual payments from your Square Dashboard via the Virtual Terminal. The fees for manual entry are the same on the Virtual Terminal as they are on the Point of Sale app as well.

So sorry to hear you were having trouble inputting the expiration date when trying to do a manual credit card transaction. This was a known issue that our engineers have since resolved.

Yes, it will ask you to login with your Square username and password. All of your business and account information is attached to those credentials. 

 

Just make sure you don't have any payments in Offline Mode (pending payments), otherwise, you're good to delete and reinstall! Let me know if you have any questions about this by replying back to me in this thread.

I have deleted the Square app and reloaded it.  I have changed all the user ID's and passwords and I still can't get it to accept certain expiration dates.  What is wrong?  I am getting so frustrated.  I'm about ready to get another app altogether.  This is ridiculous!

4x now I haven’t been able to use 21 as a date for manual card entry. Any other number will work,but not 21. Anyone else?

Hey @baguettemagic84. Sorry you're still having trouble. Have you also tried to completely delete and reinstall the app? If for some reason you're still having trouble after going through the deleting and reinstalling, please give our CS team a call so they can go through some other troubleshooting.

I am trying to charge a AMEX card with the expiration date of 1/24.  Square will not accept this date.  Does anyone know why the date 01/24 is not being taken by Square?
