Square for Restaurant reviews
What's everyone's thoughts on the Square for Restaurant app? We started using it last week and I'm not really impressed (we've used regular Square for years). The Auto-86 function doesn't work. I can't get the "busy mode" for order timing to work. The 'open drawer' function under "actions" randomly stops working. The tech support has been terrible. Other than the table section functions (which we don't use), I really can't see any reason to upgrade to one of the premium options when the basic app seems wonky. I'll either stay with the free app or go back to regular Square. I'm pretty disappointed; I was expecting a lot more.

Hey @deslock1,
I'm sorry to hear about your experience with the Square for Restaurant app and our Support team.
I'd like to assist.
- When you say the 86 function is not working, are you receiving an error message? Can you please provide a screenshot?
- Have you tried following the steps from this article to turn on "busy mode?"
- Check out these basic troubleshooting steps for your cash drawer.
Thank you for your feedback and time.

The video that is shown on Square's site in the comparison section of the Restaurant bundles shows an Auto-86 function where you "long push" a tile on your POS menu and a window opens. After you make your selection, there should be a countdown number on the tile that shows the inventory as it decreases. None of this works. It doesn't even appear like that on my POS.
As for the busy mode, I have tried everything. Restarting the Ipad, removing and reinstalling the Restaurant app, talking to tech support multiple times, changing the "device" code, creating a new device, etc. etc. I keep getting a message that says I need to setup online pickup/delivery to use the busy mode. Our online pickup/delivery has been set up for years via Square. We are getting online orders through Square's Weebly. We cannot engage the busy mode.
At this point, I wouldn't recommend anyone use Restaurant For Square outside of the free version. And if you're going to use the free version, just stay with standard Square. I'll be looking into Toast this week.

I tried it about a year ago and returned to regular square.
It felt more restrictive, and no additional features were worth the restrictiveness and awkwardness of the flows. I see the intent of making the orders very linear.
In the coffee shop case, or even cafe scenario, it just made it harder for my staff to collect the orders. So I went back to the regular square.
My biggest disappointment was that it still doesn't solve the restaurant business problem of inventory management. You still have to rely on third-party apps to do any inventory management that means something.

I was excited about the Auto 86 function they advertised. It doesn't work. Neither does the "busy mode" to delay online orders. I'll be going back to regular Square or investigating Toast. I will also add that Square's tech support is atrocious. I go to the seller's community for answers; talking to tech support is like trying to get a coffee table to tell you how to fix your issue.
