I have set up the tax rates for my square website, as well as item options. Taxes are not showing in checkout.
Any suggestions how to fix? Thanks?

Just wanted to jump on hear and provide a bit more context. Online stores should only charge tax to a state IF you have a business presence (nexus) in that state. i.e. a physical address such as a warehouse or office. If you do not have a nexus for the state you are shipping to, you should not be charging taxes in that state. I highly recommend using the Automatic Tax Calculator for US states as that information is updated consistently to be aligned with current tax rules.
I also found this 2023 Tax Preparedness pdf guide from Tax Jar, and linked you to the page where they explain a nexus more thoroughly. 😊

Hello there @mfm336
I can see your taxes are automatically calculated. When this setting is in place Square Online will only apply taxes to States where you currently have a Business location. If you need to charge taxes on every purchase (something I recommend consulting with your accountant or the Department of Revenue in your State) then you would have to configure your taxes manually.

I checked your site, and I was able to see the tax applied after entering an address on the checkout page.
I did notice that you have quite a few tax rules setup. Is there a reason why you choose to enter the taxes manually as opposed to using the Automatic Tax Calculator settings? Typically, online sales will only charge taxes if the purchaser is located in a state where you also have a nexus, or business location.

I was able to confirm in your account that you have not setup Sales Taxes for Online Orders yet.
You may accomplish this by visiting your Square Online Overview page and heading to Settings > Sales Taxes and setup your taxes there.

there is no ( Online Overview page and heading to Settings > Sales) . In the online checkout there is nothing g about taxes. all this people having the same issue so the problem is with square. thanks

Thanks for the reply. The settings for online checkout shows nothing about tax, only shipping. the tax was added to the items but in checkout the tax amount shows Zero.
Adding tax should be a simple task but it is almost a week and i can't find a solution, it is a lot of work. We will stay with PayPal until Square improve its platform.

Hey there @rhelaxcandles
Sales taxes should be applied on the checkout page once your customers enter their address to complete the purchase. If that is not the case then I suggest you double-check that your tax settings have been configured properly under Online > Settings > Sales Taxes
If everything is set up correctly there and taxes still do not apply please let us know.

I have spent 6 hours trying to figure out why my taxes are not showing up in the checkout. I have watched videos and looked up so many websites. Even with the shipping address it’s not coming up.
