1. [New] Square Refund Policy Update
Labels: (Square Payments)
We wanted to inform you of an upcoming change to Square’s refund policy which will be effective as of April 11, 2023. Occasionally, we update our policies and pricing for our products to better align to evolving costs from our network and payments partners. In these scenarios, we make pricing changes so that we can invest in our platform, create new features, and continue expanding the value Square provides to sellers like you. Processing fees will no longer be refunded to your account when you issue full or partial refunds to your customers.
2. [New] Learn More About Two-step Verification
Labels: None
Square is constantly launching improvements to keep your accounts safe from fraud and unauthorized activity. We will soon require select sellers to enroll in two-step verification. The program will expand until all sellers are enrolled in two-step verification in 2023. We launched a webpage at Learn how to protect your Square account with Two-step verification to explain why it’s important, how to do it and answer some frequently asked questions you may have.
3. [Improvement] Announcing Some Exciting Updates to the Payment Methods Report
Labels: (Reporting) (Square Payments)
We introduced some new exciting updates to the Payment Methods Report. You can now get a clearer view of your payments:
- Card payments are categorized by debit vs credit, and by card brand such as Visa or Mastercard.
- Checks will be shown as a separate payment method instead of being lumped with ‘Other’.
- Meal Vouchers will also be represented as a separate category instead of being part of ‘Other’ payments.
- Payments charged to House Accounts will be represented as well.
- The House Accounts row in the table will represent the deferred payments charged to House Accounts.
- Payments for House Accounts Invoices will be represented under the type of payment methods that were used to pay for the invoice.
4. [New] Square Subscriptions now Available on the Square Appointments Point of Sale Mobile App
Labels: (Square Appointments) (Square Subscriptions)
Now you can offer subscriptions directly through the Square Appointments point of sale mobile app! This is a great way to sign up your customers at check-out to subscriptions that your business offers. Conversely, you can also cancel an existing subscription. Additionally, you can use Subscriptions to easily look up whether a customer has an active subscription with your business.
5. [New] Flagging Time Off Conflicts When Duplicating Schedules
Labels: (Square Appointments) (Square Restaurants POS) (Square Retail POS) (Square Team Management)
You asked and we have listened! We are happy to introduce a new feature that alerts you to time off conflicts when duplicating your schedule. Available now to all Team Plus, Shifts Plus, Restaurants Plus, Retail Plus, and Appointments Premium.
6. [New] Scan QR Codes & Barcodes from iOS device camera
Labels: (Square Customer Directory) (Square Point of Sale App)
Now, you can more quickly and accurately identify your customers by using your iOS (iPhone, iPad) camera to scan a ‘reference ID’ via QR code or barcode. This will add the customer to the sale and can also apply an associated discount. This functionality builds upon a previously launched feature that allows you to use a physical scanning device to identify your customers.
7. [New] Smart Group Templates + Improved Segmentation UI
Labels: None
Segmentation is key to understanding your customers, marketing to them, and gaining customer insights. We’re happy to announce that we’ve recently improved our Directory interface to increase discoverability and usability for Filters, Smart Groups, and Manual Groups. We’ve also created suggested templates, which are pre-defined, but modifiable, Smart Group templates. These will help save you time, as well as give you ideas on ways to best group your customers by certain attributes.
8. [New] Inclusive Taxes are now supported with Square Subscriptions
Labels: (Square Subscriptions)
Square supports charging price inclusive taxes. When taxes are set to be inclusive, the price of each item sold will already include the tax. These taxes can be set up through your tax settings from your online Square Dashboard. These settings will apply to sales across your devices.
9. [New] Add Service Charges in Square Virtual Terminal
Labels: (Square Virtual Terminal)
We’re excited to announce that you can now add Service Charges to any Virtual Terminal transaction. Great for adding service charges such as shipping, bagging, or other operational fees. Service charges can be a percentage or dollar amount with an assigned tax. You can add multiple service charges to any transaction for Quick charges or Itemized sales in Virtual Terminal.
10. [New] Use a Barcode Scanner with Square Virtual Terminal
Labels: (Square Virtual Terminal)
Now you can quickly add items during checkout using a USB barcode scanner directly in Square Virtual Terminal! When you scan an item using a barcode scanner, it will automatically be added to your cart. To set it up, simply plug it into your computer to connect. Then, select the barcode scanner button, which can be found under the Itemized sale tab in Virtual Terminal.
11. [New] First & Last Visit Filters
Labels: (Square Customer Directory)
Now you can easily segment and filter for new customers who just made their first visit and lapsed customers who haven’t visited in a few months, based on your own definitions and parameters. This filtering enables you to easily target customers for ‘win back’ or ‘welcome’ one-off campaigns, incentivize new or lapsed customers with promotions and discounts, as well as gain important insights.
