Product Block Image Aspect Ratios

Hi,

So Weebly in their wisdom have removed the ability to edit Image size within the product block. (ie the Small, Medium, Large options)

Something I have been using for over 10 years.

Now I need to add products to my page I have to import an image and a product block (minus image) to have the images at the size that I desire & have had for those 10 years.

These means I can't use the bulk upload feature.

This means I have to re-edit every item on my website. Thousands of hours of work.

Not really happy with this

Hi there,

If you hover over your product image (inside the product element), you will see a tiny blue square in the lower right corner. You can edit the image size by dragging the blue square to expand or contract the image.

Unfortunately in Weebly's wisdom they have "cropped" most of my images.

Therefore I no longer see the full image to drag the little blue thing to resize my picture (which i have been using for 10 + years)

Same here.. I can resize my cropped images easily enough but thats not my issue.. The issue im having is all of my images have been cropped so that the model's heads or half of their bodies are cut off which makes my images useless as customers cannot see the outfits im selling.

Sorry to hear you're having trouble, @Simone101.  Are these product elements on regular pages, or product images on Store pages?

Hi Adam

The products are on regular pages (I think) that I created by clicking Add Page, and then selecting Category Page.

I originally selected the pages where I list my products as Standard Pages, but this made the product pages look horible with ugly out of shape Add to Cart buttons, out of whack descriptions and with very cropped images. I switched the Standard Pages with my products on them to Category Pages and the display is looking much better. The product display is easier to navigate through and the images are clearer and less cropped, however my images are still somewhat cropped. Although less is cropped than before, half the heads are still cut off and/or the some of the legs and shoes are cut off...

The little icon next to the Category pages has a little folder looking icon next to it whereras on my default store-ilke page such as my Home page, it has the little shopping cart icon next to it.

I also tried selecting Product as a type of page but that only gives me the option to select individual items at a time and obviously I do not want an entire page of every one of my 20ish items.

Here is the link of my temporary website (building site before I transfer my domain to Weebly)

http://yellowolleystyle.weebly.com/store/c2/DRESSES.html

Another issue I am facing with images is with the search panel on my published site. When on my products pages, say for example 'Dresses', the images are still funnily cropped as mentioned above however they are quite clear and not blurry or distorted at least. When I search for 'Dresses' in search bar, the results that come up are of very very cropped and blurry images and a bunch of the dresses are missing.? Why dont the search results for Dresses (or any other item) show what is on the actual Dresses or other items page? These images results from the search bar look so bad that im considering removing the Search bar if I cant fix this. Of course I would prefer to rectify this as I will be adding more products over time and serach bars are a great tool.

Thanks for your help

I can see you've changed your image ratios to 2x3 in Store > Settings > Display, @Simone101, so that's definitely a step in the right direction. The best thing to do would be to add some extra white space to your images so they fit those dimensions - that should prevent them from being cropped with that image/category ratio.

As for the quality of images in search results, I've shared that with our engineering team for investigation. Thanks for letting me know!

Ok thanks.

Just to clarify, what are the exact dimensions I should be making my images sizes to fit in correctly to the 2x3 size? I dont know what pixel, inch / cm or file size I should aim for to match the 2x3 size.

I will play around with the white spacing once I figure out how to do this but it would beeasier if I know the exact sizing to aim for to prefect the images looking presentable.

Thanks

Hi @Simone101,

Here's the guidelines I give all our customers...

  • 3x2 or 4x3 for images that are rectangular and have a width greater than height
  • If your images are square, you should select 1x1 ratio
  • If your images are taller than they are wide, you may opt for 3x4, or 2x3

Let me know if you have any more questions about that. Smiley Happy

Thanks.

So ive tried both 3x4 and 2x3 and it seems the images are looking their best in 2x3.

However Adam just reccommended to me that because my images have been cropped by Weebly in whichever display size I choose that perhaps I should add some 'white background' to each image to try and fix this issue.

So, if Weebly are going to crop my images in a way that no matter the display size used I cannot see my entire image, I need Weebly to tell me the exact dimensions I should be making my images before I upload them to my site to make the images fully visible to customers.

2x3 is still cropping my images. I need a better solution and answer than this.

We'll only crop your images if the image isn't the same ratio as what you have selected in your Store settings.  For example, if you have 2x3 selected and your image is 200px by 300px, we won't crop it at all since it's the same ratio.  If the image is 250px by 300px, it's going to crop it some so that the image displayed on your site is 2x3.

Does that make sense?  I'm not sure of the size of the images you're using for your store, but an easy way to get them to have the same ratio prior to uploading is to add a little white space to the top and bottom or to the sides.

Okay, that's the information I was looking for--how Weebly handles images. If one aspect ratio (or two) has to fit all, this website builder is not for me.

It's stupid if I have to add white space around product images just to make sure they are displayed in a whole. Weebly should offer an option to display the original aspect ratio of the product picture. I have book covers that are being cropped despite my settings 2:3 and it's not nice to display them cut in half. Please incorporate a function to define a new aspect ratio at least or do it in the builder with the mouse. Should be easy enough.

weebly would be earning soooooooooo much more business if they had the same built in option that say, wix does.

i'd stay at wix, but it's too expensive for me. but if it's not going to be worth it here, then to wix i go back to..

come on weebly, Smiley Sad

what you are asking for us to do, is very tedious.
