How can I change website thumbnail? It is defaulting to a certain photo on my site but I want to select a more specific photo/logo that represents our brand and makes a better first impression when sending the link to potential clients. I googled how to do it and found some code that includes the url for the photo that I want to use and placing that in the page header but didn't work for me.
WIth the classic Weebly drag and drop editor, you can specify a specific image by using a meta tag. Use this URL of an image file with the meta tag like this:
<meta property="og:image" content="https://www.google.com/someimage.jpg" />
Simply replace everything within the double quotes after content= with the URL of your own image, then add it the Header Code field in Settings > SEO in the website editor. You can also do this on a per-page basis by going to the Pages tab, clicking on a page, then adding it to the Header Code field found in SEO Settings. If you haven't already added the image to your site somewhere, you can also add it to a hidden page and then right-click on the image on the hidden page to copy the URL.
For sites built using the Square Online editor, you can do this for every page of your site within the website editor. Navigate to the page, then click on the gear icon on the left and choose Page settings. Go to the Social tab on the popup, then add an image to the Social image option. You can also set one for the whole site by going to Website > SEO & Social Media, click on Update social media, then adding an image on the Social tab of the popup.
Regardless of which editor you have, don't forget to publish afterward. You may also want to use the Facebook debugger to scrape your site again, since Facebook may use older cached images without doing that.
I would also like to display another image when sharing my main page "www.koh-lantist.com"
The image is available on a second hidden page as follows: "https://www.koh-lantist.com/secondtest.html"
Please let me know if you can't access the images.
Would be so grateful for your help
Thanks again
Flora
Hi @Flow It looks like you have successfully added the og image for the main site.
If you want https://www.koh-lantist.com/this-week-in-lanta.html to have a separate image you will need to enter the og code in the SEO section for the individual page. Click on Pages>Page Name> SEO Settings. Then paste the code with the appropriate image url in the Header section. Hope this helps!
Like so many, I've tried the suggested remedy, made a hidden page, debugged, and it did not seem to work.
Here's my homepage: www.imaginedcollective.org
Here's the hidden page: http://www.imaginedcollective.org/hiddenpagename.html
I would like it to show the first picture on the homepage, pretty much always, but it skips to the second picture.
Can you take a screenshot of what you see on your end? This is what FB is showing in the debugger:
Hi there,
I am having the same problem as those above - on FB and on LinkedIn.
My URL is https://www.grittycat.com/
I created a hidden page (https://www.grittycat.com/logo.html) starting with a logo image, then I tried an actual photo (image location: https://www.grittycat.com/uploads/2/5/3/3/25331449/wild-women-hero-v2_orig.jpg). I entered the provided tag in the page header field and it's not showing at all in the FB debugger (it's choosing a random image from my homepage) and it's still blank for LinkedIn. Any clues what I'm doing wrong?
KT
Hi @KT2 Sorry if the instructions were not clear, but since you put the og tag on the hidden page it's only going to show up for that specific url:
Try putting the code in Settings>SEO>Header and then save and publish. You may need to rescrape the url in the debugger tool a couple of times.
Thanks so much Bernadette - it worked!
Awesome! Glad to hear it worked out for you.
Hi I've been trying to change the sharing image and am now getting a facebook debug nessage: the following properties are missing: fb: app_id
Please help me as I hate my sharing image!!
I think it fixed itself now just need to figure out linkedin
Hi @Rik9280 You can ignore the app_id warning. That's only required if your website has an app version. How's it going with Linkedin? I can't remember if I've come across a Linked in specific post.
It works. Best forum ever
Woohoo!! Happy to hear you were able to get it all to work. Happy editing!
I am confused.
I've read through this thread and understand some have figured it out but...wondering if there is a consolidated and easy to follow "to do" checklist that I/others could follow to rectify this problem?
I am having a generalized problem (not isolated to a single place like Linkedin or Faceboo, etc) it happens everywhere I share the link to my site (www.gentsff.com) and the image is of something buried within my site and not the "main logo" I wish to appear. The preferred logo had been appearing all along until recently it seemed to just randomly change to this new image.
Help!
Facebook will pull the first readable image to share. Have you added those icons recently? Are you trying to share the logo in your footer? You might need to add the logo to a hidden page on your site since it appears to be too small for Facebook to read. The image must be larger than 200x200 pixels.
Anywhere I post the link to my website - whether its the homepage or an interior page - the image shown is an extremely zoomed in version of my logo. This happens on twitter, on facebook, in a text link, in an email, ANYWHERE I post the link.
Can't weebly offer an option to CHOOSE exactly what graphic is shown whenever a link to the site appears? Better still there should be an option to assign which image appears for each page. Having it randomly choose is an obvious problem that just within this thread has been happening for over FOUR YEARS.
C'mon, that's ridiculous.
I had this problem and scrolled through all the answers all the answers on this thread to find a workable solution, nothing that helped - I'm not a coder.
I also wanted a different thumbnail icon when sharing different pages of my website.
Then I tried something within my capabilites that worked. I added a hide box (seperate app) to the top of a page I wanted a specific thumbnail for. Set it to hide on all devices and inserted the thumbnail image in the hidebox. Works for me on whatsapp, facebook & linkedin
