How can I change website thumbnail? It is defaulting to a certain photo on my site but I want to select a more specific photo/logo that represents our brand and makes a better first impression when sending the link to potential clients. I googled how to do it and found some code that includes the url for the photo that I want to use and placing that in the page header but didn't work for me.
WIth the classic Weebly drag and drop editor, you can specify a specific image by using a meta tag. Use this URL of an image file with the meta tag like this:
<meta property="og:image" content="https://www.google.com/someimage.jpg" />
Simply replace everything within the double quotes after content= with the URL of your own image, then add it the Header Code field in Settings > SEO in the website editor. You can also do this on a per-page basis by going to the Pages tab, clicking on a page, then adding it to the Header Code field found in SEO Settings. If you haven't already added the image to your site somewhere, you can also add it to a hidden page and then right-click on the image on the hidden page to copy the URL.
For sites built using the Square Online editor, you can do this for every page of your site within the website editor. Navigate to the page, then click on the gear icon on the left and choose Page settings. Go to the Social tab on the popup, then add an image to the Social image option. You can also set one for the whole site by going to Website > SEO & Social Media, click on Update social media, then adding an image on the Social tab of the popup.
Regardless of which editor you have, don't forget to publish afterward. You may also want to use the Facebook debugger to scrape your site again, since Facebook may use older cached images without doing that.
Thanks for posting, @SusanM The instructions might be slightly different for your editor experience. Do I have permission to publish if needed?
Sorry, I jumped the gun! You can actually set your image from the SEO settings! Open the editor and click the little settings icon next to your home page name. Then click Social and upload the image you wish to share.
THANK YOU
I did all of these steps and no change.
Hi @Mellowdee Can you let us know the site url and image you are trying to use? I checked one of the sites in your account in the Facebook Debugger tool and this is what shows.
I managed to figure it out with the posted instructions. TY for following up!
Thank you Bernadette!
Thanks Adam.
I did this for my homepage link and it cleared the unwanted picture from displaying but it just randomly chose a different picture now. It did not let me choose. It did not work for a specific page within my site. It is displaying the same unwanted picture as it did before I debugged and scraped it.
The message I see in the 'open graph object debugger' page where it shows what users will see:
Based on included and inferred properties, the below preview is what users will see when you share this URL.
It might show that after scraping new info, but what do you see if you go to your own Facebook page and share the page there?
I see exactly the same as I did before ... he wrong picture??

What URL are you sharing, @soundmemories?
Hi I've tried de-bugging and scraping and I still get the incorrect image when posting to social media.
The website I'm using is www.ccprofessional.net
I would really appreciate some help
Thank you

Hello ClareC!
If you'd like to control exactly what appears to Facebook, you may want to look into embedding their markup language on your page, as detailed here.
This method actually works for me. I just clicked the "Scrape Again" button then it updates to the picture and description I want to display. Thanks Adam!
Hi Tanya, I have the same issue happening on my weebly website. When i paste the link to FB/Watsapp, etc, it is picking the image on top. And thats not the image I want to display when i share the link with my audience. Can you tell me how you solved this problem. Thanks
Hi there. I posted instructions on how to do this. Let us know if you need help!
Hi, can someone help me? I followed all the steps but still the same picture. I made the hidden page. It still has the weird logo. www.arielsresumebuilder.weebly.com
Hi @ariel1! It looks like you do not have an image uploaded to your home page, which is why that Facebook is showing the image from the weebly ad in your footer area. If you can upload an image element that is at least 200x200 pixels in size to that page and publish, facebook should show that instead.
Hi Leslie - Thank you for your help! I just added a photo (my logo) at the bottom, and it still didn't come through ! I tried to scrap it through the debugger https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/sharing/ and it still didn't help! Can you help me?
Hi Bernadette and Adam,
I have read the whole instructions, tried them all but I still can't change or add the picture I want to display when sharing my link. I am probably doing somehing wrong. Could you please help me?
