Show Variation?

I would like my variation to show even if I have only one item, so people know what they are getting.

For example, we sell gallon size plants and 3.5" pot plants. I keep the same species information, and sell the two variations on the same plant. The gallons are $15, the 3.5" are $10.  As it is, if we are out of gallons, people will get charged $10, but they won't know the size because the variation gets hidden. I would like people to see that when they are charged $10, they see they are getting the 3.5" and don't have to guess the size.

Is it possible to make it so the variation always shows?

Hey Adam, thanks so much--I'll respond there too.

I figured it out. My second variation was at a variable price, so that wasn't showing up. I changed it to a set price and now I see both variations whether they are in stock or not.

Thank you!

I just replied to your other post, @ericemorgan78. Where is the variation being hidden?

Nice catch! I've marked your response as a solution in case someone else runs into the same issue.

Hello - I'm having a similar issue (also with selling plants online).  For many plants we are only selling one pot size, but the variation doesn't appear online if the customer only has the one choice of variation.  For example, if we're selling Ilex glabra at $22 for a 2 gallon pot, there is no drop down for variation and the buyer can't see what size plant they are getting.  Did you encounter this problem as well?  Does anyone know a way to make the variations appear online, even when only one variation is offered?

Thanks for your insights!

We don't show the dropdown when there's only one variation because there's nothing to actually choose, although I can see why you would want that information shown, @AJL. Have you added that to the description of the item? That's probably the easiest way to let a customer know that kind of information.

Thanks Adam.  I could do that, but I'd like to treat sizes consistently.  It will help with reporting among other things.  I ended up forcing the drop-down to show by creating a second variation called "Select an option:" and giving it the same price as the 2 gallon plant (with inventory of zero).  Not ideal, but I think it will work.  Do you foresee any issues?

Interesting solution! Since you have the inventory for that "variation" as zero, I don't see it causing any problems for you.

For anyone reading this, it does trigger the "Only a few left!" message to appear since the 'Select an option:' variation has zero quantity.  No other issues so far.
