We all agree that referral spam is annoying. However, it in no way does any damage to your site. It is not possible. The only reason these bots exist is not just to annoy you. It is the chance that a vast majority of curious webmasters, will see the referring links and click on them. Bingo! That is precisely what the spammers wanted you to do.
Moreover, if they are nasty spammers and you click on one of their referral links. You could end up with malware or a virus on your computer or device.
We always recommend never to click on any of these referral links, unless you know the site and know the place well. Most commonly, the referral sites host advertisements. The site's owner is ordinarily paid by the advertisers for every unique visitor or by page load the ad receives. And even more, if the visitor clicks the ad and makes a purchase. The idea is that the more referral links they can send out. The more visitors they will receive and as a result they fill up their bank accounts with ease.
