Weebly DNS settings not working

I have a website hosted at weebly.  It is a "Pro Account" and is listed as being for my domain pantheist.net.  The domain itself is hosted elsewhere.  The site has worked properly for many years, but two weeks ago, when I tried to update my site using the Weebly editor, I got a message that "It appears your website is not set up properly." It asked me to change the A-Record DNS settings on my domain host platform to:

199.34.228.77.

So, I did that two weeks ago, and even called my domain host (Hostmonster.com which said they "pushed" it out again on February 13, 2023 just to make sure).

It appears to me that the Certificate for  199.34.228.77 is invalid. It is listed as a Weebly IP address, but it is expired.  So, I think the reason my website at pantheist.net is not working is because of ERROR on weebly's part, not my domain host.  HELP!

Welcome to the Seller Community, @pansociety

The domain does not appear to have any DNS records setup. Are you able to edit the DNS yourself, or does your host have to do it for you? Are you able to provide a screen shot of those settings?

Your A-records should be pointing to the site assigned IP addresss: 199.34.228.48

Also, domain DNS changes can take up to 24-48 hours to fully update across the backend.

I'll be on the lookout for your reply!

Thanks, and welcome to the Seller Community 😊

Bernadetta - The A-record IP address 199.34.228.48 is NOT the same as the weebly control panel gives me,

which changes the last two digits to .77  -  Which is correct?  The Weebly control panel says it is 199.34.228.77 as I said in my original message.

I am able to change the DNS settings at my domain host myself. Here is a screenshot of that as of 13 Feb 2023 - changed a week earlier to 199.34.228.77 because the weebly control panel said that is the IP address.

Now there is another development in this issue  -- - -   Because YOU Bernadetta gave a different IP address than the Weebly Domain Set Up page gave me, I went back in to verify the IP address I should have my A Records point to .  NOW on 19 Feb 2023 - the Weebly Domain Set Up page gives me a DIFFERENT IP ADDRESS than it had given me a week ago on 13 Feb 2023 - see screenshot.

My domain hosting provider has an option for "localhost" which on all my other sites is the same as the @ record.
Is that the same here?

So I'm trying changing the A Records at my domain host to see if this new IP address will work better.
But now I have to work another 48 hours to find out if it will even work.

The number ending in .164 is for the new Square Online websites. If you use this number with your website you will see a 404 page. The IP number we gave you is the site assigned IP that will show in the pop-up when you assign the site address under the Settings tab in the Site Editor.

The original .77 number would work as well, but the .48 number is the most recent IP that displays when attempting to enable the SSL

Thanks for the screenshot of your DNS settings. You should have two A-records pointing to the same number. One for "@" and one for "www".

Do you know why there is a record for "www.vision"? I think that might be breaking the connection. 🤔

This is the public DNS records for the domain pantheist.net here. As you can see, nothing is populating. To confirm, here is the propagation checker for the two A-records you need to have in order for the site to work:

@
www

Can you try editing the host records to look like:

@           199.34.228.48
www     199.34.228.48

The www.vision is a sub-domain that I can and will delete.

Where did you get the number for an IP Address ending in .48?

That shows up nowhere.  The Set Up instructions say to use .77 - - which I set up for two weeks but it never worked.

So am trying the new one .48 now.

19 feb 2023 - at 9:10 PM Arizona time.

I think this problem started when I clicked the button to enable SSL.
It was after that the website Set Up instructions told me I had to change my DNS settings to .77.
I'm not sure what the settings were before - may have been .48.

When I updated the DNS server previously, the Weebly Domain Setup Page had a "Verify" button.  I did not see it this time.

Is there something Weebly has to do to update the domain at their end?  Is there anything my domain host can do to "push out" the DNS propagation faster?  My site has been down for over 2 weeks now!

Hi there. Your DNS is still not setup properly. Can you take a screenshot of your domain settings? This is what it looks like right now:

There's no information to go off of, and no A-records setup. 😟

I am working with my domain host on this problem. They say my domain is not propagating, so they have to re-set it to default. That might take 48 to 72 hours. after that, I can try re-setting it to the Weebly A-Record.

Sounds good! I know these types of issues can be frustrating when you have to go back and forth, but once the DNS is setup properly you should not run into any additional issues. I'll be on the lookout for your next update! 😊

At long last, my site at https://www.pantheist.net/ has been restored.

It took 3 days for my domain hosting provider to "re-set" the domain to default.  My old former website showed up at that point - not updated in years.  I then changed the A-Record to point to my weebly site, and within a few minutes it was live.  However, despite using the .48 DNS record, it came up with the non-secure version of the site. I had to go into the settings page and change it to make SSL on.  A few minutes later the site was indeed activated with SSL (https://) and so it seems to be working fine.
Bernadettea, thank you for your help on this. This journey did discover however a major problem at your end.  When the problem first occurred, the Weebly control panel told me to re-set set the DNS to the A-Record ending in .77 (as described above),. NOWHERE did it ever offer the .48 version that you gave me.  That means your Settings control panel needs to be fixed to give the correct A-Record ending in .48 - since at that point I had already put SSL on.
