We are setting up inventory management for the first time but have been using Square for a while. We have only one location. I added all of inventory quantities but the few cash test sales we performed did not reduce the inventory quantitiy in the items display. Are we doing something wrong - is there a step I am missing? I did not set up low inventory alerts as we don't think they are really useful to us at this point.

Hi @mikek
Sorry to hear about the trouble. We actually discovered an issue with our Inventory Management that our Engineering team resolved shortly after your post on Friday.
Was everything working for you now? If you see anything strange let me know immediately and I can have our teams here do some investigating.

I am having the exact same problem! It is now Tuesday, November 7th, and it is still happening with my Cash sales.

Actually, I just updated the POS App and that does fix the problem.
I don't like that I can sell items that are out of stock. I think there should be an option to turn it off so that once items are out of stock, you can no longer sell them. The online store doesn't allow you to sell things that are out of stock, so why does the POS App? Please let me know if this will be fixed/changed soon.

It seems to be working now and did update the tests we made last week. Thanks for your help.

Glad to hear everything is back to normal for you both @pcbands @mikek
An option to prevent selling items with stock counts at 0 is a good idea.
The thought process behind our decision to allow you to sell beyond 0 stock counts is that we didn't want to prevent you from making a sale if you discovered new stock or had a return/refund and didn't have time to update your inventory before your next sale.
If anything changes with that, I'll definitely let you know.

Thanks, EJ.
Not being able to sell items that are out of stock is a very important feature for us. We are selling seats at a gala, and once all the seats at a table are sold, there will never be any more. To prevent us from selling more seats than we have at a table, I have to track inventory manually. That's cumbersome and error-prone. So yes, please do let us know if you'll be making any changes to this functionality.

Thanks for sharing your specific business need for this @pcbands
I'll pass this along to our Inventory team, and hopefully we can get something rolled out to help with this in the future.

In the Items section you can choose the category to show certain item types. That'd be a great place to add a "In Stock" or "Out of Stock" section, so you can still sell an item if someone wants for preorder, but if you want to only sell what you have on hand, you only have to scroll through the items in stock rather than everything.
It is 05/01/2021 - 4 years after your post and I'm having the same problem! my stock numbers are not reducing with sales. Is this still a problem with Square 4 years later!!?

Hey there, @JimmysHangTen -
Welcome to the Community.
I would love to get some more details on what you're experiencing with your stock & inventory.
Do you the Square Online or any API's? Or do you just use Square Point of Sale and aren't seeing the inventory go down?
The more information I can get the more it will help to find your solution to what you're seeing.
I will keep an eye out for your reply👀.

I am having the same issue. A customer purchased an item through our Square Online store and we have completed the sale but the item has not come out of stock. I have manually updated the stock but this should not be happening!
