Exporting and Importing Data Between Square Accounts

Hi

I’m in the process of setting up a new Square account and need to all transfer data from one specific "location" within my existing account. I’ve successfully exported text from items and customer data, but I’m wondering if there are other data types I can export (like transaction history, locations, invoices, inventory images etc.) and how to properly import them into the new account.

Or better yet, perform a complete backup/snapshot of my current square account and establish a duplicate account with a new email as sort of a complete backup and restore?

Has anyone done this before, and are there specific steps or tips you recommend for a smooth transfer? Are there any limitations or things I should be aware of when exporting and importing data between accounts?

Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated!  Square support has been nothing but useless when I have called them about asking for guidance.

Thanks in advance,

Hey there @jklein703.  The short answer is this functionality does not exist, except in pieces and even those are limited.

You can not transfer the following between accounts:

  • Transactions
  • Any settings
  • Invoices
  • Images of any kind
  • Websites
  • etc.

While you can, as you’ve discovered, export items and customers, the CSVs do not contain complete information.  For example, you can’t export modifier sets, so you’d have to rebuild those from scratch.  Also, the Customer CSV does not contain all kinds of information — for example loyalty information.

There is no backup/restore functionality.  There is no snapshot.  Etc.  This is why you couldn’t get any information from customer support.  What you are wanting to do is simply not possible.

That being said, can you please outline and explain exactly what it is you are trying to accomplish here?  In order to possibly help you further it is imperative that I actually know what your end goal is.
