Trouble with rounding errors on purchase orders

Trying out the trial of square for retail since we are considering transitioning away from QuickBooks but I have been having trouble with a bunch of rounding errors when making purchase orders.

Trying to receive cases of 50 lighters at a cost of $49.99 each but there is no option to input more than 2 decimals for cost nor is there an option to input a discount when receiving purchase orders. I can input additional fees like shipping and taxes no problem but how do we input discounts? Tried inputting negative fees but that didn't work either.

Unfortunately, little rounding errors like this make this software unusable when we order hundreds of cases like this. First few days using the retail trial and it feels like tons of extremely basic features are missing or super hard to find.

What are you trying to transfer from using QuickBooks?

Are you using QuickBooks for accounting or for their POS software?

If you are using QuickBooks for only accounting, Square is not setup for doing accounting and you would still need QuickBooks to track expenses and Income.  Square also does not let you put in other types of Expenses like rent or Utilities which you would also have in an Accounting package to show different Financial information.  This is why multiple businesses on here also use QuickBooks or other Accounting Software.

I use QuickBooks and enter my costs of items there to get the correct numbers for my items since QuickBooks lets you use more than 2 decimal places.  I then enter these numbers for costs in Square, but have slight differences with the rounding as you mentioned.  Since I do not use the Square numbers for my accountant and only a quick reference for me to see what I am making or need to charge to be profitable this does not bother me much.

Hello @MagoosTX thanks for reaching out, I am sorry you are having some issues using purchase orders. To confirm when you go to receive stock in the purchase order you are not able to enter the price for unit cost? Can you provide a picture/screenshot of what you are seeing? Thank you!

Try entering $49.999 for the price of an item in Square when receiving an item or creating a PO.... You can not do it.  In QuickBooks for the price of an Item you can.

Here is a picture of a dollar amount going to I believe 4 decimal places in QuickBooks Desktop.  As you see in COST the price is 4.2689

When we as a business order items through a PO the price might be $2134.45 for 500 items or 4.2689  per item which gives rounding errors when we can only put in 4.27 for 500 items or $2130 is what the amount comes up to (4.26 X 500) but should be $2134.45 not 2135 or has a rounding error of $.55 cents. When I used $4.26 cents the price is off by $4.45 (2130 = 4.26 x 500)  This is why it is important to have fractions of cents for a PO or for Cost of Goods.  This was also brought up in a topic for when buying in Case lots and selling items for the Sell By Units Conversions.

Thanks for the follow-up and deep dive into this @Candlestore . I did confirm with our Square Retail Team is would be a feature request and at this time not something on their radar. I agree this is crucial so please make sure to add your request to the Ideate Board and we will make sure to keep track of this and provide any updates as they are available. I put in for the feature request but according to Square they need likes from this to be bumped up to a higher priority then Square just seeing the Request and then labeling it Reviewed, Not Planned.  When I did a search for More decimal places 1358 PAGES on this community site have requested more Decimals for different reasons and I would assume that Square could see these Searches too and build this in.  Guess not since we still need to Request this feature.
