The title of this thread has been edited by a Square Moderator from the original: How do I run a detailed Fees report that tells me what was paid to Visa / Mastercard?
The recent Visa / Mastercard class action settlement allows many merchants (like us and possibly you) to get reimbursed for fee overcharges by these credit card companies. In order to determine what settlement we might be eligible to receive, we need a Square “Fees” report that breaks out the details like what portion of Square’s fee was paid to Visa / Mastercard. I cannot figure out how to get that detail, even in a custom report. Can someone help us?

You may have to Download your Transactions details CSV by years.
You need to manually change the Time frame from Jan 1, 20xx to Dec 31, 20xx.... then repeat for all years you need. You can only down load csv files 1 years worth at a time through square and can not download multiple years of data.
When you have these as individual csv files you can then open a pivot table and filter by card types and get a sum for each year by card type.
If you know about Power Query you can have Excel and Powery Query append all your Downloaded csv files into one huge CSV sheet and then do a pivot table showing all these totals quickly.
I am just not sure how far back on the screen reports you can see and how easy this information would be to print. When your in the Excel pivot tables and filter by Card Type you can have all the Visa fees my month, year and then same for MC, Discover etc on a page or 2.

I see what you’re trying to do—getting those detailed fee breakdowns can be tricky, especially if the reports aren’t straightforward. Here’s what I’d recommend:
- Check Square’s Reporting Tools
First, log in to your Square dashboard and head to the Reports section. Look for anything labeled as “Fees” or “Transaction Details.” Square typically bundles all fees together (their cut plus what’s passed on to Visa/Mastercard), but sometimes you can get more detailed breakdowns.
- Try Custom Reports
If the standard reports don’t show what you need, try creating a custom report:
- Go to the Custom Reports section in Square.
- Add fields like “Card Type” and “Fees” to see if you can filter by Visa/Mastercard.
- Unfortunately, Square doesn’t always clarify how much their fee is paid directly to the card networks versus their processing fees.
2. Reach Out to Square Support
If you do not see the required level of detail, your best bet is to contact Square’s support team. They may be able to provide a more granular report or guide you on how to access that data.
3. Using Additional Tools
If this becomes a recurring need, you might consider using tools like Zil Money. Platforms like this are designed to offer detailed reporting and better transparency around fees, payments, and settlements. They can also consolidate data from multiple processors, making tracking these overcharges easier.
Tip for the Settlement Process
Once you have the data, check the specific requirements of the Visa/Mastercard class action settlement to ensure your reports match their requirements. It’s a good idea to double-check with your accountant or legal advisor before submitting any claims.

Here is what I get when I did this file on my Transactions Details csv in excel as a Pivot table for the Fees from Square for these cards:
You can add more columns for Taxes, Gross Sales, Net Sales or by Items. The only thing I am not sure of if they want what you Paid Visa, this only shows what we paid Square when these brands were used.

We need to be able to create custom reports (or even better, select pre-created reports) that show us the breakdown of the Square fee we’re charged. Specifically, we need to know what percentage or amounts were paid to Visa and Mastercard for each transaction.
This will help merchants like us to qualify for the class action settlement recently announced.

NOT SOLVED:
Thank you everyone for your responses. I did try to download the CSV, but it doesn't break out to the level of the Visa/MC transaction fees. Here are more details of data I need assemble for the class action suit:
> Interchange fees associated with each transactions (this may be provided by your payment processor)

You would need to contact Square Support. This forum is mostly other users giving advice to show what you can get.
You even stated this in your reply:
> Interchange fees associated with each transactions (this may be provided by your payment processor)
The interchange fee is basically Square's wholesale cost and the transaction report gives you the Retail cost which is the only cost Square allows us to see from Reports or csv files. This is why I am stating you would need to request this from Square Support, and their number is in my signature line below.
