Today, while training a new location on Square for Restaurants, I encountered the Calculator asking for permissions. We've added it as a function button to the home screen, and any time one of my non-manager associates opened it, they were prompted for their code, which did not have adequate permissions.
Is there a place to grant permissions to the calculator?

Hey there @leswvv, sorry you guys were having some difficulties, it sounds like the owner did not grant permission to Manually enter custom amounts. Please have them reach out to Customer Support so we can take a further look at the team permissions setup and we can get this resolved. They can reach Customer Support at 1-855-700-6000 squ.re/contactsqsupport. I hope this helps!

Thank you! I'm the Owner, and wondered if that setting would effect the calculator availability. It seems counter intuitive, since I'd love for my staff to be able to use the calc as needed, without allowing them to enter custom amounts for payment. Those should be unrelated, IMO.

Hello @leswvv, I'm stepping in for @MayaP. I took a closer look at the permission settings and I can’t seem to find a permission specifically for the calculator. Wondering if it's asking for a code because it was added as a function button. We suggest giving our Square for Restaurants Team a call to discuss this function with them further.
In the meantime, feel free to send us a screenshot of the calculator you are referring to, I am curious to know exactly what you are seeing. I can also bubble it up to them internally but for a faster response we still suggest calling them as they will need additional information related to your account and set up.
Thank you.

The issue of the Calculator requiring Manager Permissions on Square for Restaurants likely stems from the permissions associated with its use. Here's how you can address it:
Why Is This Happening?
The Calculator function on Square may be classified as an action requiring elevated permissions, such as voiding transactions or applying discounts. Non-manager associates without the appropriate permissions will be prompted to enter a manager code to access the feature.
How to Fix It:
To allow non-manager associates to use the Calculator without entering a code, you need to adjust the permissions in your Team Management settings:
Sign In to Your Square Dashboard:
- Navigate to the Square Dashboard site on a web browser.
Go to Team Management:
- Click on Team or Staff, depending on your version of the dashboard.
- Open Permissions under the Team section.
Edit Permissions for Non-Manager Roles:
- Identify the role assigned to your non-manager associates (e.g., "Team Member" or "Cashier").
- Click Edit to modify the permissions for that role.
Grant Access to Calculator:
- Look for options related to the Calculator or "Use Advanced Features" if the Calculator is grouped under such permissions.
- Enable the permission required for Calculator usage.
Save and Test:
- Save the changes.
- Have one of your non-manager associates test the Calculator button to ensure it no longer prompts for a manager code.
Notes:
- If you don’t see a specific Calculator-related permission, it might be grouped with broader permissions like "Manage Settings" or "Access Restricted Functions." Adjust carefully to avoid granting excessive privileges.
- Consider contacting Square Support if you're unable to locate or modify the relevant permissions.
Let me know if you need further clarification!
