[New] Offline Payments on Square Reader and Square Stand

Hi Sellers! 

 

We’ve rolled out a new feature, offline payments, that enables you to take contactless and Chip + PIN payments on Square Stand and Square Reader when you do not have internet connection. Offline payments are already available on Square Register and Square Terminal, and we are excited for the expansion of this feature! 

 

Not sure if your reader can take offline payments? You can use this Support Center article to identify your reader. 

 

Allowing offline payments is easy… 

In your Square POS app tap More > Settings > Checkout > Offline payments > Allow offline payments.

 

Once you’ve allowed offline payments, your customers can tap or insert their cards without you being connected to the internet for up to one hour. However, you must reconnect to the internet within 24 hours of the first offline payment to upload transactions taken while offline. There is additional risk when accepting payments offline, our Offline Payments Support Center page will walk you through exactly what these risks are.

Hello. I'm new to square and am needing to use my reader offline. I have seen that I can enable offline for 1 hour. Is this 1 hour in total or 1 hour at a time before reconnecting when 1 hour is expired? 

I will be running a toddler group for 2 hours per week so am wanting to use my reader for 2 hours at a time but with no internet connection.

You're able to use the offline feature on the Reader to accept offline payments for 1 hour at a time. Note that you then have up to 24 hours from when your device goes offline to upload these payments.
