I have a question regarding custom payroll amounts

Hello there. I’m having trouble finding what I need. I have an employee that I will be paying a commission percentage based off the labor of the bill (he is a mechanic). But I take payments in more ways than just square. Cash, card, check, cash app etc. Is there a way to manually input what his pay check would be to direct deposit it? I don’t want to give a percentage of the total bill because he does not get a percentage on the parts. Any help is appreciated thanks

Hey @Loganp98.  When you say you take “payments in more ways than just Square,” do you at least create and close ALL transactions through your Square POS?  If so, the simple answer is that you can do this, but ONLY IF the transactions are closed to your mechanic’s team member number when payments are made. From your online dashboard go to Staff & Payroll > Team > Settings > Commissions.  There, you can set up your commission rates per employee for both services and/or parts.  This will work as long as the person who records the payment (mechanic or not) signs into your POS with the mechanic’s number to complete the transaction.

Also, FYI, you’ll need a Square Teams subscription (maybe the free tier but I don’t know your needs) as well as a Square Payroll subscription so that you can set up the mechanic and other employees to be automatically paid each week.

If multiple people are getting a commission — mechanics on services and sales people on parts, for example — then you currently can’t do this with Square.  You’d need to head over to the Square App Marketplace and see if there if a third-party app from someone who specializes in repair/maintenance shops which can connect to your Square account — including Square Payroll.

I’ll close with saying I’m pretty sure we will go back and forth here for a little while.  Your question seems simple enough but can get complicated quickly depending on your business model.  But this should be a start for a conversation.

@Loganp98 I’ll add this, also,  YES, there is a way to manually input payroll line items into an employee’s paycheck when you run payroll each week.  In fact, there are a couple columns available for customer amounts and there are also ways to modify gross pay amounts before submitting your payroll.

Hello sorry for the late response. All I’ve been doing so far is entering the amount I’ve been paid by other means into square for our records. Is that what you mean?

Maybe it’s what I mean.  Exactly how do you enter the amount you’ve been paid by other means into Square?
