Test sale went through on my friends card. Help.

Hi! I just created and setup my square account and when testing the charge option I setup a test sale and used my friends debit card (he’s here) and it went thru on his debit card but did not show

up in my balance?? Anyone have any help please??

If you run a “test” now it has been 12 years for me 😆 but if it is a test and runs thru fine it should not show up as a transaction for a deposit. Honestly what I do when testing new equipment or training employees if your friend is there I actually run it through for 5.00 dollars and give them the money back and that way I see it in my transaction and then watch it hit my bank.

@Minion it has been years since I did this but if running a test only it should not show up in the transaction section correct? When I train new employees I know it doesn't on my end. I run an actual transaction for 5.00 dollars that way I can show them see its there and will deposit at the time you choose.

Hi @JRCollectibles  did the sale ever end up showing up in your balance yet?  Some times it does take a few minutes, I have seen others report recently with their balances not showing up in a timely manner as well.  

 

Let us know if it ended up showing up yet, or if its still MIA.

@Candlestore @Minion Thank you both! I just looked at my terminal and printer and no test button. So you would have to use a physical card. I use our managers here and give him the money back is all for 1-5.00 if that can't get it 5 tries we have a problem 😆 I guess we need to address this in the back end! 2 problems could occur while just training an employee. 1. You can't run your own card while having a loan. 2. Refunds/returns add up and that could slow down an offer in the future if you have too many. Both should be easy to see by a human but not an algorithm. Imo @CandlestoreI would keep doing what you are doing and if you need to get a prepaid or another worker, someone for just a couple of bucks and give them the money well worth it instead of getting zapped.

We can do a Test sale for Training?

I always just do a $1 actual transaction, print the receipt.  Then the sale shows in my Transactions, and do a refund for the same amount on that $1 transaction.  Now I know I loose the small Square Transaction Processing fee now.  Is there a way to actually do a Test Transaction with No fees or for Training purposes?  I wouldlike to know the steps if one does exsist as I see no Test button after I add an item to the cart on my Square Stands.

Hun, it's been a while 4/5 year since my last time hiring! I have a great crew. That's why I also put the same as you running a card for 5.00 dollars but I don't refund back I just give them the 5.30 here in Michigan it is 6% tax. That way I don't take the hit of a refund and they can see from start to finish and in the bank. It might be different with what terminal you are using. I mostly train with the terminal and printer before I go to the cash register.

Thanks for the clarification, I thought I missed a Feature or a button to enable a Test mode.  The hit on the refund I am talking about is the Square Processing Fee that is no longer refunded or deposited when a Credit Card is ran through Square.  So in you example lets just say Squares fee are 15 cents, you deposit from Square that you refunded the person $5.30 for, Square deposits $5.15 to your bank and you took the 15 cent hit which is the same as showing a new employee or testing a Refund.  Now when you last did a training 4 or 5 years ago, square refunded the entire $5.30, which included their fee for processing the card in the first place which is no longer the case.

  • What happens to the processing fee when I issue a return?
 

 When you refund a payment, your customer is refunded for their full payment amount, but the processing fees for   the payment are not refunded.  

 

  • Will my customer be notified when my refund is completed?
     

     

    Customers will not receive a notification regarding their refund unless the refund is manually re-sent.

     

    If the original sale was made with the Cash, Cheque or Other Tender options, the customer won’t receive a notification. If they need proof of the refund, they can contact you directly to send a refunded payment receipt.

     

    Customers can also check their card statement to see if the refund has processed. Refunds from Square will show on a statement as SQ*, followed by the Square seller’s name or business name and business type.

I went through both registers and terminal nope, my warranty papers and instructions had the testing part. All 3 did let you test to try it out before you started waiting on customers. Our store has a no-return policy. Each piece has its warranty and the decor and rugs, pictures, etc you bought in person. We handle and work great with our customers on our own as well. We advertise on Google and Facebook all of those but with being a retail furniture store people want to sit on the couch or kitchen table set so we don't do but a few over-the-phone sales. All foot traffic.

What Balance are you referring to?  Your Square Balance, Your Square Checking account Balance, or your out of Square Banking Balance?  Sales from a Transaction Like your describing usally show as an accumaltive Balance of sales for that day, which gets reset to $0.00 at the end of the day when Square Transfers this money to you or into your Square Checking account.  The best way to see if this transaction happened is to view your Transactions for the day this Test transaction happened.
