Is there a way to apply a discount that only applies to certain items in a ticket?
We have a situation where we would like to apply a discount to certain items on a ticket for certain customers, but not to all items on their ticket or to all customers with that item.
For example, our loyalty program members get 15% off drinks, but not food. So we'd like to apply a 15% discount to any drink items on their ticket. I know that we can go into each drink item to add the 15% discount individually but is there away to apply it to all drink items on their ticket at once? I also tried an automatic rule for the discount, but then it applies it to everyone's tickets, not just our loyalty program members. It would be great if you could add multiple criteria for automatic discounts (i.e. apply to a certain category for a certain customer group) or if you could manually select when an automatic discount would be applied to a given ticket.

Hello @Luppoleto thanks for your post. It sounds like your Loyalty members ALWAYS get the 15% discount, and that the reward is not based on past spending amounts? The Loyalty program is setup to both earn points, and specify the spending of those points. There may be a way around this, but it would take some manual tracking and might get too cumbersome...
When you setup your reward, you can specify what categories to discount. For example, you would use a DRINK category at 15% discount. But the issue is that you're wanting to give this reward without Loyalty members earning the points first. You can setup for customers to earn a point for each visit, but you'd have to manually add the first point to their account. Then every time they come in to make a purchase, they'd earn a point, and it would "cost" a point to apply their 15% discount to the drink category.
Maybe another person would have a better workaround for this, lets see if anyone especially in food service would have another idea.

Hi Charlie,
Thanks for your help. You're correct that our loyalty program isn't a points-based system like typical programs. We're a brewery and our customers purchase the membership yearly which gives them discounts on certain items we sell (beers, merchandise, etc.) and priority access to certain events and other perks. So it's not an issue of making sure they have enough "points" to get the discount. We want to be able to give them the discount every time they come in, we just only want it to apply to certain types of items on their ticket (i.e. only beer, not food or other drinks we sell).

Unfortunately to my knowledge there isn't a way to only discount for loyalty members at this time. Our loyalty program is set up to give them 10% back whenever they shop with us and it won't let us offer more incentives by category. You can set category specific loyalty points but then it's not on the $ amount unless each item in the category is the same $ amount.
Loyalty definitely could use some work as I'd love to offer 1 point per $1 spent on every day stuff (10% off for us based on rewards) but then 2-5 points for different categories per $1 spent.
Best of luck and hopefully some day we'll get more loyalty options.
