Barcode question

I'm selling third party goods that come with a barcode already.

do I just use their barcode to load inventory and can use the same barcode when scanning for a sale?

Can we run this system as well as printing our own barcodes for items that don't come with a barcode?

and is this the best printer to use: https://squareup.com/shop/hardware/gb/en/products/zebra-zd411-barcode-label-printer-gb

@SCA_Fashion ;

You can use the Barcode that the item comes with.  The Barcode that comes on the item I would use as the GTIN in your Square Catalog.  If you have Square for Retail subscription Square can generate a SKU that can be used to print barcodes with in Square using the ZD411.  Yes Square can use your catalog to print Barcodes but I recommend using your Square Dashboard to print these labels for Barcodes.  I see issues were people struggle to set the ZD411 up to print labels with their POS.  In your Square dashboard you can easily print your own labels, and barcodes with clicking a few boxes in Square.

The ZD411 is a good printer and I have read others swithing too the zd411 from other brands.  The question is what are you trying to print?  With the 411 you also will need a Receipt printer if you want to give customers a receipt.  The 411 is more for Labels you stick on items.

Here is an article by @JTPets and they uses the label printer with their pos system.

As you can see their labels have Barcodes on them plus some other information.

I currently use 5 Zebra printers to make my labels and barcodes in 5 different sizes and shapes.  I actually love these printers but for more custom settings and using the free Zebra software I can customize my text and fonts more along with a larger selection of labels than what Square supports.  This is also another reason to have your label printer connected to a computer rather than your POS.

Everything in my catalog gets a gtin from their upc. If they don't have a upc I make one up. I don't use skus the way it's intended currently I just duplicate my gtin lol. Small enough  business ot doesn't matter yet.

But yes you can make a upc up pit of 12 digits and put it in your gtin spot and print labels for those things
