Can we talk about how these new category changes hurt retailers??????????

Making it where we cannot choose categories directly on an item for listing online is a HUGE ERROR IN USER INTERFACE AND EXPERIENCE. It is glaringly obvious that those making these decisions at square have never actually worked anywhere that deals directly with. consumers.

PLEASE BRING BACK THE ABILITY TO ADD CATEGORIES PER INDIVIDUAL ONLINE ITEM LISTING.

Hey @Frenchhen.  I think that this issue is just a timing thing, and will be resolved in a future version of item management.

But, for now, you CAN add categories per individual item.  You just need to go to the main item catalog editor (dashboard > Items & Orders > Items).  Edit an item there, scroll down to the “Categorization” section.

If you click on the Edit button by “Categories” you can specify every category (online or otherwise) that contains the item.

If you click on the Edit button by “Reporting category” you can specify which category this item’s sales are reported in on standard Square reports.

You can, if you are using Square for Restaurants, also specify which POS menu(s) the item is contained in.

I hope that helps.
