Pickup Prep Time to control order deadlines

Quick version of the question...

In the section for customising pickup & delivery options, how are the business days defined? Are they a straight Mon-Fri or are they based on the business hours set for the specific location, or for the account as a whole?

Longer version to understand the context of the question...

I run a bakery specialising in sourdough and predominantly sell at Farmers Markets. In these Covid times, I also do drop-offs of bread to points for collection (e.g. at a Village Community Centre for local residents to come and collect their bread). I do three market a week plus drop-offs.

In Square I've set up various locations for pickup - the idea being that customers pre-order the bread online, choose the location they want to pickup from (e.g. a market on Friday, or a village drop-off point on Monday etc.)

Because it's sourdough, my prep time is in effect about 40 hours, so I want to have an order deadline of say 5.00pm Wednesday for collections on Friday from 9.00am at the market. This enables me to finalise the dough making schedule Wednesday night, do the dough prep on Thursday, bake early Friday morning and get to market in time for collections from 9.00am to midday Friday.

For each location, I can setup business hours to specify when people can collect their order so that's fine. For my items and locations, I can set these up for pickup only so that's fine.

What I'm struggling with is how to set the order deadline for each location (e.g. approximating 5.00pm Wed for Fri, 5.00pm Thu for Saturday etc.)

I can see I can use the prep time options to roughly do this, but it's not clear exactly how these work. For instance it gives an option for "2 business days". How are the business days defined? Are they a straight Mon-Fri or are they based on the business hours set for the specific location, or for the account as a whole? From what time is the 2 business days start from?

Many thanks,

Andrew

Hi @AndrewN, thanks for your post!

At the moment, there isn't a way to straightforwardly setup an order deadline but you can control this with the prep time.

The prep time will based the business hours on your pickup & delivery hours. For an order, the estimate prep time will start when when customer complete their purchase.

While there isn't a way to set order deadlines, it might be worth creating a banner or pop-up to let customers know when orders are cut off as well. If needed, you can also switch off the Accept Order Online button to prevent customer from making new orders after the cutoff time.
