Feature request: a built in "shipping" line item to help to better track shipping charges

I would love to have a built in "shipping" line with our invoicing.  It wouldhelp to track how much is being spent on shipping.
And would surely love the ability to ship from Square!!! 🙂

I want to make sure I have a good grasp on what you're looking for. Ideally, you want a permanent item on your invoices for the shipping cost? 

Would you want the shipping cost to be variable or fixed for each invoice?

Yes!   I used PayPal invoicing for 1 1/2 years.   Due to their lack of keeping track of my sales tax I switched to Square at the beginning of 2018!!  I love it but would love it to have the shipping line item ( like sales tax ) built in.   It would be awesome to be able to run a “ shipping collected” report.    Also, do you think there is ever a chance that Square will ever have the ability to ship and print labels right from Square?

Right now we don't offer a built in line item, but you could create an item called shipping and leave the price blank. This way you can change the shipping cost each time if it's dependent on weight and size. Then you could run an item's report to track your shipping costs! 

I don't think shipping directly from Square is in the works, but I will make sure to pass the suggestion along to our Dashboard Team!

This has been discussed on other threads and this is a serious problem for invoicing and tax issues. The request to have shipping as a seperate line item has been requested for over a year now. While your workaround is accurate, it is manual and time-consuming. It also produces innacurate sales reports. 

Here's the  problem with the current situation. The reports are not accurate. The shipping items are included in those reports and they shouldn't be. If I want to know the # of items sold in a given period these shipping items make that number innacurate. Plus, it looks odd to a customer on the invoice.

Please figure out a better way to add shipping charges. Similar to tax or discounts. make it a seperate line item where I can enter multiple shipping charges and just select correct one or even better, let me set up the shipping to automatically add the correct amount based on # of items shipped or weight,etc.

Hey @dotdotsmiledp, thanks for taking the time to share your experience with this. I'm sorry for the frustration with reporting—we definitely do not want you to have to sacrifice reporting accuracy in order to be able to add shipping as a line item in your invoices.

I went to check for any updates and there isn't that I can access and share out at this time. For now, you may want to have a look at our invoicing partners as they may offer a suitable solution: App Marketplace > Invoicing & Services.

This is unfortunate that Square continues to ignore this request that has lived on for almost 18 months. I am not billing for services so most of those apps are not applicable to my business. In reality, this isn't a difficult feature request. It's similar to sales tax being a line item. Please stress to your development team that this is an issue from an accounting and reporting perspective and should really be addressed in development.
