Only one item but cart offering multiple buy option

I am new to e-commerce site and finding new hurdles to get over each "step" of the way!

Latest is that although all my items are one of a kind, when I test the published site online, I find it offers me the option to buy multiple numbers of the item.

From my reading of the guides, all items are by default, single items.

Anyone know what I have to do and how do I do it (!) to ensure the cart does not add multiples of an item and charge a customer incorrectly - and thus lose a sale at checkout?

Thank you!

SOLVED.  After a very long ( hey, it's CV-19 time and everything is slow) and not very satisfactory chat with a customer advocate in the USA I worked out it is all to do with Variations.

If you are selling vintage, secondhand books or hand crafts etc, any one of a kind item, intuitively it does not need or have variations but do not ignore the variations panel.

And do not become frustrated!

Click the stock option, toggle the track stock, use the drop down panel to select stock received, increase the number to 1, click update stock.

The weird thing is, you go back to variations and there is no stock showing, just a blue dash.

It didn't make sense to me until I thought, right, the online shop is the shelf in my bricks and mortar shop, and this variations section is my back room.

You need to be able to see a 1 not a dash in the stock column of your items library to avoid a customer being offered the option to buy multiples of your item.

Hey @Upcycling,

Thanks for getting in touch!

While we're not able to specially look into how accounts are set up, have you turned on inventory management for your items? This way you can set the inventory level of each of your items to "1", so that when you're low on stock you can't sell more of the item. It will look like this when a customer goes to add the item to the cart:

Hope this helps!

Thankyou Seamus.

I responded, twice now to this thread, once to you and once to explain how I solved my problem. Something goes wrong.

Hopefully my thankyou will get through this time.

Problem solved late yesterday via Variations when editing an item.

Hey @Upcycling,

Glad you got things working in the end, and good to know that you were able to use Variations to solve this too.
