usb bluetooth dongle

New to Square Retail but years of retail experience and need a little advice. I received my Square Retail POS system we are up and running.

One thing that is driving me crazy is not having Bluetooth on a $800 computer. (ie: the Square Retail POS). So, before I buy one to see what happens, has anyone hooked up a usb bluetooth dongle to the usb ports on the Retail POS? Just wondering what pops up on the POS screen.

Having the ability to use my wireless Socket Mobile Scanner would increase productivity a bunch.

Thanks in advance,

dp

I'm not sure about a Bluetooth model per se, but I am using a Nadamoo Bur3003 (got it on Amazon for $35) as a wireless barcode scanner for Register. Square Register recognizes it as a "Honeywell Xenon 1900" barcode scanner, and it works well. It has a dongle that plugs into the USB block.

Bluetooth is a 2.45GHz signal, which would possibly work thru walls and obstacles a little better than the 433MHz that the Nadamoo uses, but I have no issues in the 30ft around the Register.

There definitely are more "unsupported" devices that work with Register, but you'd be rolling the dice on weather or not it would detect it as a "known" device (like it did with the Nadamoo Bur3003: Reading it as a Honeywell).

Did you have to do something to make it recognized by Register?  I tried my Bur3003 and it doesn't work (either USB or via bluetooth dongle).  Thanks.

Thanks finally broke down and bought one. Worked immediately out of the box. The system recognized it as Honeywell. I didn't have to do anything.
