If the second business is not connected to the business you already have I would recommend signing up for a separate Square account to keep your financials separate so that it will be easier for taxes and budgeting and expenses.  You can just go to https://squareup.com/ and sign up (you may have to log out of your current account)

If the new business that will share the items you sell is another location you may want to just add a second location.  That can be done here.https://squareup.com/dashboard/locations

@VanKalkerFarms - Sound advice! 🤜  🤛

@Joanisa - Just to add on, you'll need to use an alternate email address to create your second account. Also, since
VanKalkerFarm's reply answered your question, would you mind marking it as Best Answer? That'll help other community members find this thread if they are wondering the same thing. Thanks!

We are also opening up a 2nd location for our ice cream shop. Similar menu items, possibly moving staff around between the locations, and we also want to be able to apply the square gift cards between the two. However, the 2nd location is set-up as a different entity and has a different tax ID number. Do I have to create two different accounts? I don’t think payroll will work if I set-up two locations, since I have two different tax ID.

Hi @msambo - Welcome to The Seller Community, it's always nice to see a new face 😊

Great question.

They would have to operate as two different entities if there are two different tax ID numbers.

Otherwise, there will likely be some issues with tax reporting at the end of the year.

I hope this helps.

I was able to create a 2nd location under the same account. The 2nd location has a different EIN and bank account from the 1st location.  Based on that, I would think that Square will be able to give me to different 1099-K for each location.  So, I think that solved my first question.

But now, my issue is the payroll. I have one account (i.e. one login), with two locations, but it seems that Square only has capability to do payroll under main umbrella account, which in this case is the 1st location.  It's strange that you can enter different tax IDs and bank account numbers per location, but you can't provide unique employers tax identifications numbers for payroll.

Can you explain how you added a separate EIN number and bank account for 2nd location?  That doesn't seem to be an option.
