default filename for exports

When I exported the item library, the file saved to my computer as "catalog-2019-12-21-1758". The correct time was actually 11:58 PM. So the file name is reflecting a different time zone.

This may seem like a minor issue, but if the file name is supposed to show the download date and time, it should show it accurately (using my local time).

Accurate times and dates are critical when tracking financial data. Is there a setting I can change to fix this? If not, please make the fix on the backend right away.

Hi @mikesclub. I'm checking in with our team on your question. I'm not 100% sure, but once I hear back I'll share what I found out here!

I have a followup, on a related issue. If necessary, you're welcome to move this comment to a different topic.

When I export sales reports, I select the period to be covered. For example, I choose 1 December to 15 December. The downloaded report though has the following heading: Sales-2019-12-01-2019-12-16.

The data in the report covers the correct window (up to the 15th) but the report title indicates that the report includes the 16th.

This is not a serious problem, but it is another thing I have to mentally correct for.

I like Square, but all these hoops I have to keep jumping through to manage my data are starting to make me question if Square is the best tool to use. I shouldn't have to interpret things like dates when it comes to accounting. Thanks.

We heard back from our team and confirmed that when you are downloading a CSV file from your Square Dashboard, the timestamp will be displayed in Coordinated Universal Time. Uploading and downloading in UTC time ensures that no matter what time zone you are located in, the file conversion will be successful.

It sounds like this may be why the report reflects an end date of 12/16 although the data in the file stops at 12/15. To be sure, could you confirm what timestamp is on the file and what time zone you were in when you downloaded it, @mikesclub?
