NEW TO SQUAREUP - PAYMENTS, TAXES ETC

Hi.  Pretty new with this since I just started a business.  Loving square up but having difficult time finding info in one spot.  May be doing some pop up stores and maybe sell via Instagram/facebook without website as of now.  Have the reader and chip hardware.

Tax

how do I add tax at checkout.  I want to have it always on the POS just to add as I get to a sale.

How many apps do I need (I see invoices, pos)?  Maybe I'm missing something? I have the POS and INVOICES

If I were to sell on instagram without a website what options do I have to process payment?  a link? buttons? invoice? or any of these? what if in another state? what tax do I add or would I do via computer and square up will do for me when I send a payment link/invoice etc?

Computer

square up in the computer main purpose is? is it all linked with POS app?  Im guessing the online version has more things specially for those with websites.

Thank you so much

Welcome to the Community & Square, @LMA12

I am happy to walk you through your questions.

Starting with taxes, you have the ability to create and set up Sales Taxes as you'd like. Go to your Dashboard > Item Library > Sales Tax. Below I have added an screenshot of what my own Dashboard looks like in this area.

This is where you will be able to customize your taxes to fit your business. Also, taxes can be added to certain items or all, if you'd like.

Moving on to apps - Do you use Estimates a lot? That is a perk of having the Invoices App, you can create and see any estimates (can be accessed through your Dashboard too). If not, using the Point of Sale app will give you access your invoices. It comes down to your business needs & personal preference.

Next is Instagram - there are a couple of options when integrating with Instagram. There is an option with Appointments or you can add it to your Online Store. As of now, those are the only options. When it comes to taxes in a different state, you will have to consult a tax professional on the best course.

And finally your computer questions - could you give me some more info on what you're asking about with your main purpose question? I want to make sure we are on the same page. You can have a Square Online Store to let customers purchase your items online, if you'd like. Yes, everything is link through your email address, so this means ANY payment taken with it will be stored under your email address.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Thank you so much for your response.  By computer, I am referring to managing tools, taxes etc via squareup.com.  So any type of setup, changes will automatically sync with POS app?

Also booking via instagram has nothing to do with selling correct?  I am assuming another option to sell via instagram would be by sending private message links with POS app.  I've been testing this by sending myself payment links.  Also when I send these payment links, how can I cancel them if customer does not want to buy at the end.

And lastly, when I send text links will these links lead to these customers getting unsolicited messages from square up etc?

Thank you for your patience and guidance!!

Hi there, @LMA12 👋Stepping in for Kassi on this one in her absence! Welcome to the Community!

Yes - any changes you make on one specific device (in this case, a desktop computer), will reflect over to your Point of Sale app and other devices you sell on. The only scenario in which this would not be the case would be if you are selling using Offline Mode.

In regards to Instagram, yes, booking via Instagram simply will add customers to your booking calendar - the sale will not be processed yet.

Here is a helpful guide on how to deactivate checkout links. Checkout links are universal, meaning you can share them with as many customers as you like.

Checkout links will not cause your customers to get spam messages from us 😎
