What does awaiting capture mean on a credit card transaction on the square dashboard > transactions page?

I think we got it resolved. They changed status once they ran close of day. They had to go adjust tips I believe is what did it. I was just wondering what the awaiting capture meant maybe they should put something different if that’s what it actually means awaiting tip adjustment. I thought the capture stuff had to do with the way the instruction from the merchant to the bank so had me little worried when I seen like 12 transactions with awaiting capture

Sounds like those transactions are awaiting to be settled with a tip. Do you happen to have sign and tip on a traditional/paper receipt turned on your in your settings?

This awaiting capture issue is happening on all of my Restaurant POS stands, even our walkup window where they sign and tip onscreen.  Tips have been adjusted, but transactions are hanging out in this "await capture" mode for over 48 hours!  Square support CALLED ME to tell me it was because my system was in offline mode, but all stands are operating at full speed and capacity.  This is definitely an internal issue I'd love a solution for.

I THINK i have a solution to this - go have you changed how you deal reopening checks and whether or not the check is refunded or the original method of payment is made? I had changed it to where when servers reopened checks - it didn't save the  credit card info.  But you have to leae it so that screen is off..

Here are more details regarding offline mode. You can turn off offline mode, however, offline more is used if your internet connection is very low or none at all. 

 

One last thing, if you are working on offline mode, please make sure that you do not delete the Square app or update the app until all of your transactions are done processing.

I have the same issue.  They have put in a ticket.  Three days ago we started having the issue.  They will force close by running end of day but I have no way to watch what is going on in the middle of the day or to close shifts.  I have three devices running restaurant POS and two hand held square terminals.  Every transaction run shows awaiting capture even though I only allow tip on screen and everything should have been settled.  CS put in a support ticket but it is hugely frustrating.

So it is now 06/26/2022 and this is still an issue with Square POS.  Can you please just allow us to view the credit card sales along with all other sales even though the transaction hasn't been settled. Maybe just add a line on a sales report that says unsettled credit card sales, but it will still show us a total for the day or shift. We're simple folk and just want to know how our business is doing accurately, without having to wait for close of day. Thank you!

I don't have the POS set to accept tips at all and this still show up.

To turn off this feature please head to your Settings > Checkout > Tipping. Toggle Collect Tips > off so that the circle is gray not blue.
