I used my own DEBIT card to purchase retail from my store but am told it’s a cash advance and now I have been penalized

This gets into the grey area of credit card processing. People will swipe their own credit card for say $10k to get 10k in their account for only 3% or less vs the cash advance or writing a check off your credit card that is more like 15%. It is also a way to try and launder money and get the money from the credit card free and then claim it as a false purchase or a fake account they didn't open. Basically, people will always find a way to scam systems.
And then it hurts the honest people as credit card processors have to setup rules and regulations on things like this.
