Hey, Bruce! Great question. This is still currently a feature request, but I see how important this could be to allow a more seamless transition from the Point of Sale app to the Retail Point of Sale app. I will flag this to our Product Managers as I really understand the usefulness of this feature.
As a workaround, what you can do, is add your customer's emails at the time of adding a customer to the sale in the Retail Point of Sale app.
Also, if a seller adds their email for a receipt, they should be added to your marketing list as reachable customers.
I know these workarounds aren't the exact feature you are looking for, but they should still allow you to capture some customers through Retail Point of Sale. 🙂
