Multiple Shifts & Tills - multiple drawers for 1 register

We are a small shop and have 2 main shifts each day. Each shift is responsible for their own drawer and the count of that drawer at the end of their shift. We use 1 ipad register/drawer/printer. Space does not permit for more than one.

Currently the 1st shift counts their drawer and ends drawer with the actual drawer amount entered..... then the 2nd shift also counts the drawer to enter as their starting drawer amount for their shift.

It's inevitable that customers are waiting during this shift change as we count the drawer. It cause mistakes and frustration.

What is our solution?  Ideally, we would like to have 1st shift remove their till and count it in the back, and at the same time a new till for the 2nd shift would be entered and a new drawer would be started. When the 1st shift is done counting they could come back ad enter their actual drawer amount and end drawer.

Is this possible? If so how? Or any other suggestions or solutions we should consider?

@JakeBreak thanks for the detailed example of what you're looking to do. I get it, your method would create a shift smooth transition without inconveniencing the customer with waiting.

Unfortunately the first drawer needs to be closed in order to open the second one if operating using one POS set up.

I'm not sure of a workaround but hopefully other Sellers chime in. Tagging your post for our Product Team.
