Squareโs subscription management software allows any business to easily create recurring revenue streams. If your business utilizes subscriptions, memberships, donations, or other forms of recurring payments, our product team wants to hear from you. Not using this service but interested in learning more? This is also the discussion for you.
On Wednesday, September 28, we welcomed back @jean_sq from the Subscriptions team for another Question & Answer session! Her team is always eager to learn about how they can better address your business's recurring payment needs as well as answer any questions you may have.
Have a look below to see what topics business owners brought up, and be on the lookout for a "Best Answers" summary post (coming soon) that covers the main takeaways from this discussion.
Note: Although we can't share specific details on our product roadmaps, this information will be helpful as we continue to make improvements.

Hello Everyone,
The Subscriptions team really appreciated all the great engagement! Thanks so much for taking the time to share your questions and feedback! We hope that your questions were answeredโthe experiences you've shared will help us as we continue to iterate based on your feedback.
As we close out this event, we wanted to do a recap on three themes that bubbled up:
Subscription plan management: Ability to change the price of a plan, swap a customer from one plan to another, and enforce cancellation policies (eg. not allow a subscriber to cancel early from a 6-month plan).
Reporting and Subscription management: Sort your subscriptions on Dashboard (by plan, billing status, subscription status, subscription date, alphabetical, etc.), generate more detailed reports (revenue, plan membership, etc.), and keep your Dashboard view clean by hiding canceled/unused subscriptions and plans.
Notifications and customer management: Customer notifications before each recurring charge, reminders of an expiring subscription and more sophisticated customer portal features
The team hopes to tackle many of these in 2023!
There was also lots of excitement around an integration with Square Appointments! In the upcoming year, we will be sharing more details on that in the Seller Community. In the near future, you can also expect to see big improvements on collecting shipping and other fulfillment information and being able to make any item in your Square catalog subscribable!
GET STARTED WITH SUBSCRIPTIONS TODAY
No monthly fees and only 2.9% + 30ยข per transaction on each subscription, regardless of whether the card is present or not present.
As we work on what things to prioritize, we love to hear from sellers on what controls and features are most important. Please keep sharing here in the Seller Community. We are listening!
Again, thanks for your participation.

@YellowstoneFarm Yes. You can use Square Subscriptions to create a subscription plan and then generate โbuy buttonโ embed code to include on your Wix site.
From your plans page in Square Dashboard, click the link icon on the subscription plan you wish to share and then choose โShare Checkout linkโ
Upon clicking that link, you will be presented with a pop-up window with many share options. For embedding on a Wix website, you would choose to create a โBuy Buttonโ, and then you will see a link for how to embed on a Wix site.

@amyc32505 There seems to be two parts to this. The first part where Square Subscriptions could help is in managing the payments. You could set up a membership plan for accessing your blog and Subscriptions could handle the recurring payments. The other part is that you will need to limit access to your blog by some means (password or something else) and only provide access to those who are paying customers. The whole 2nd part of this is not something that Square Subscriptions can tackle but it can certainly handle the recurring payment piece.

@TheGlamBarltd For some best practices on what to offer as a subscription, Iโd recommend this article (Square is not associated with this article). This is one quote from it that I think is relevant:
โdecision makers must ensure that a new subscription business is a sustainable model based on a value proposition and business case tied to an unmet consumer need, and that it supports the retailerโs overall strategy.โ
When you are ready to start building subscription plans through Square, Iโd start with our getting started article - that walks you through getting started creating subscription plans either through Square Dashboard or Square Point of Sale.

It would be more accessible if it was under โadd itemโ and add subscriptions. It could take you to the subscription page to set up but still be accessible through item library.

Hey @PreTeePBoutique,
We are currently working on an integration between Subscriptions and the Square item inventory. If Iโm understanding correctly, you are recommending having Subscription plan creation as part of the process of creating a new item. Thatโs an interesting thought and Iโll be sure to pass onto the team. Thank you!

How can I integrate subscription payments into an already built website. It would be amazing to use this feature in my fitness studio so my recurring members could book their classes without having to do a separate transaction.

Hi @MikeeBentz,
From your Subscription plans page in Square Dashboard, you can generate โBuy Buttonโ code that you can embed on your website. From your plans page in Square Dashboard, click the link icon on the subscription plan you wish to share and then choose โShare Checkout linkโ.
Upon clicking that link, you will be presented with a pop-up window with many share options. For embedding on a website, you would choose to create a โBuy Buttonโ, copy the resulting embed code, and include it in the HTML code section of your website where you want it to appear.

Hi @SavvySW,
Iโm certainly not an expert in the exam coaching space, but hereโs one idea: If you offer online content, you could offer subscription access to test questions, practice exams or other online content you have available
There may be some other great ideas from others in the Seller Community though!

Iโm very interested in this topic as we are currently evaluating moving to a separate software platform so we can collect more detailed information from our members, manage a membership database, and manage a member pass entry/check-in system. We are a private not-for-profit summer swim and racket club.
We would love to take advantage of a wider feature set focused on membership businesses like ours!!!
