Additions to the Ultimate Guide to SEO for the New Editor

The Ultimate Guide to SEO offers a wealth of information to help you improve your SEO. Most of the information in the guide is universal, but some of the instructions are specific to the classic Weebly editor experience. The purpose of this series is to act as a supplement to the original guide, providing additional instructions for the new editor.

Getting Started

URL Optimization > How to Customize URLs in Weebly

For the full text see the section on URL Optimization.

Standard Page URLs, Item Page URLs, and Shop All Page URL
Click on the pages dropdown on the top left of the editor, then click the “...” button to the right of a page and choose “view page settings” to change the page URL. You can also find the link to page’s settings by clicking the gear icon to the right of the page name when editing a page itself.

Item page URLs can be changed on the item edit page as well. See the article on customizing item URLs for more information.

Blog Post URLs
Blogs are not currently supported by the newer editor.

Title Tags > Optimizing Title Tags in Weebly
For the full text see the section on Title Tags.

Standard Pages, Item Pages, Shop All page
Click the pages dropdown on the top right and then the “...”. Choose “view page settings”, and then click on “SEO” to view SEO settings for the page. Enter a new page title in the “SEO page title” field.

Blog Posts
Blogs are not currently supported by the new editor.

Meta Description > Customizing Meta Descriptions in Weebly
For the full text see the section on Meta Descriptions.

Standard Pages, Item Pages, Shop All Page
Click on the pages dropdown, then click on the “...” button to the right of a page and choose “View page settings”. Click on SEO, and you will see the “SEO page description” field where you can enter a meta description for the page. You can also change the description for items by editing the item itself in Items > Item Library.

Blog Posts
Blogs are not currently supported by the new editor.

For more information on SEO settings for pages, see the SEO Settings article.

Content > Headlines, Content > Theme
For the full text see the section on Content.

Headlines
In the newer editor, the title option in any section will use H tags for you.

Theme
Themes are not currently supported by the newer editor, although this is something we are working on. In the meantime, try out different header layouts and site design options. You can achieve different looks with those that were previously only possible by changing themes.

Image SEO > Image Alt Tag, Image SEO > Image Captions
For the full text see the section on Image SEO.

Image Alt Tag
Click on a section and then click on the image. On the left you will see options for the image, including a text field to enter ALT text.

Image Captions
Follow the same steps to add alt text, and then click on the checkbox the caption option to display a field to add caption text and options on how you want to position the caption.

To read more about adding images to your site, see the Adding Pictures to a Site article.

Mobile SEO
For the full text see the section on Mobile SEO.

Mobile SEO Matters
For instructions on previewing your site for desktop and mobile, see the Publish Your Site article in our support site.

Robots.txt
For the full text see the section on Robots.txt.

Using Robots.txt
To hide a page from search engines, navigate to the page in the editor, click on the gear icon to the right of the page name, then change the “Search visibility” option to “hide from search engines”. You can also do this by clicking on the Pages dropdown on the top right and clicking the “...” button to find the “View page settings” link.

Robots Meta Tags
It is not currently possible to add meta tags to individual pages at this time.

Canonical Tags
For the full text see the section on Canonical Tags.

Since there is no Header Code section for individual pages, it is not possible to add canonical tags for individual pages at this time. This tag should not be necessary unless you have multiple pages with identical content.

Redirects
For the full text see the section on Redirects.

To add a redirect, navigate to the page in the editor and click the gear icon to the right of the page name. In the general settings for the page, toggle on the redirect option and enter the page URL you want to redirect to that page. You can read more about this in the How to 301 Redirect an Old Page to a New Page article.

Search Console
For the full text see the section on Search Console.

Verifying Your Website with Google Search Console
Please see our article Verify Your Site with Search Engines for instructions on how to verify your site with Google’s Search Console.

Google Analytics
For the full text see the section on Google Analytics.

Once you have signed up for Google Analytics and have your analytics ID, go to Website > Integrations and paste the ID into the Google Analytics field. Don’t forget to publish afterward! You can read more about adding this and other tracking code in the Add Custom Tracking Code to your Website article.

Growth

Local Search > Reviews

The newer editor does not currently support apps from the App Center, however you can often add the same kinds of additional functionality to your site by using the Embed Code section.

International SEO > The Path to International SEO Success

At this time it is not possible to add <link> tags to newer editor sites.

Blog SEO

The newer editor does not currently support creating blogs, though you can include blog content on your site from a third party blog using the RSS Feed section.

Tracking

Tracking Tools > Weebly SEO Tracking and Performance Apps

Since the App Center is not currently supported by the newer editor, it is not possible to add tracking and performance apps to your site right now. However, you can add other tracking tools to your site if they provide tracking code that you can add to the header code field of your site. Check out the Add Custom Tracking Code article for instructions on adding additional scripts to your site.
