How To: Add a Community Avatar

Hey, everyone!

We're so excited to have you in the Weebly Community. I want to make sure you're able to make the Community your home, and a big part of that is customizing your avatar! So fun!

Here are the steps to adding your own avatar. Let me know if you get stuck or have any questions!

      1. When you are on the Community home page, click your current avatar, and then choose settings.
      2. image Choose "Avatar" from the available options. (I'll be making another post about the rest of your settings soon.)
      3. imageYou'll see your current avatar, an option to upload your own avatar, and a dropdown menu with other avatar choices. Feel free to choose an avatar we have there for you. If you want to upload your own avatar, click "Upload an Avatar." Choose where your uploaded picture will come from: your computer, from images you have already uploaded to the Community, or from images other people have uploaded to the Community. In this example, we will choose an image from my computer. You may choose .jpg, .jpeg, .gif, or .png. The maximum file size is 3072kb.

      4. Select your image, and click save. image
      5. You will now see a screen to save your main avatar. You have the option to frame your photo as you see fit. Click "Save and Continue" when you're done. image
      6. The next screen is similar, but it's for your thumbnail image (it will appear smaller). Make adjustments if you'd like. Click "Save" when you're done. image
      7. Hurray! You have uploaded your avatar. You should now be on your profile page, and you should see your avatar (proudly) displayed. Great job!

Hi Erin,

My avatar looks great when viewing my profile settings...I'm happy with the cropped version as well. However, it looks terrible when viewing at any other time. It's very blurry and the crop is off. Can you tell me the recommended image size and resolution? Is there something else I need to change? Thanks for the info.

Square

I think it will crop it that way no matter of the size, unfortunately. I played around with this when we launched Community and eventually just settled on an image that I didn't mind having cropped that way. Are you using an image that is wider than it is tall? It's possible that a taller image might crop a little better, though.

My image was square. I played around with size and finally settled on a square and paid attention to the crop window. If I find a workaround I'll post.

There doesn't seem to be an easily apparent answer for this. I went back and changed my PNG file to a 1" square, then played around with where my "head" resided in the square. Then I changed the crop area a few times until the resulting image looked better.

I hope this helps someone!
