RSS Feed -- how to get it working?

From what I can find on the site-building information, I should just be able to drag the "Blog Feed" icon onto my site and have it working. However, when I click on the feed on the live site, I get an error message saying "This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below." and then a lot of code. Is there something else I should be doing to activate the RSS feed?

If you view an RSS feed in your browser, that's what you'll expect to see since it's an XML file. You'll want to use the URL of that with a feed reader program. For more info, see this guide in our Help Center:

Thank you. I copied the URL and put it into my feedreader and that worked.

But, just a comment that this looked exceptionally weird to me, and I think it will be confusing to others as well. Normally when I click a button for an RSS feed, there is a more user-friendly page that comes up with a few instructions.  But it's good to be aware that we may need to provide our members with a few more directions for using this.

A reader notified me that my RSS feed isn't working. I have tried copying and pasting my URL into Feed.ly and Newsify, and opening it in the Apple News app. None of them work. I also tried changing the setting of my site from a store to a blog. Then I read through the help topics to see if I was missing anything.

This is by no means self-explanatory.

If readers are going to have to do more than just click the button, then it would be helpful to have novice-level instructions to share with them.

Hey there! Just to be sure, have you been using the Feed URL, rather than the blog site's URL? The feed URL would be http://www.jessicadenham.com/1/feed

http://www.pennockpines.com/2/feed

I have also tried www.pennockpines.com/2/feed and www.pennockpines.com/1/feed

Okay! It looks like the site is passworded, which would include the feed. As a reader can't enter that password, it wouldn't be able to read that content. You'd want to avoid a site-wide password if you'd like the feed to be read automatically.

Added URL to RSS widget on Wordpress

http://www.destinoindustrial.com/1/feed

RSS Error: A feed could not be found at http://www.destinoindustrial.com/1/feed. A feed with an invalid mime type may fall victim to this error, or SimplePie was unable to auto-discover it.. Use force_feed() if you are certain this URL is a real feed.

Please explain exactly how I can get this RSS feed working?

TIA

Hi @HelenFullHD Can you please clarify what you mean by document tree? How are you trying to edit the link? The RSS Feed element is just meant to be added to your site for users to subscribe to. It's not possible to edit the link in any way.

This post was helpful to me as well.

However, while it seems to work on firefox, on chrome when I click on the RSS feed button it pulls up a whole long page of code and is basically incoherent. Help?

FireFox and certain other browsers recognize the XML file as an RSS feed, then open the appropriate application to use it. Chrome does not do this by default, and will simply show the contents of the XML file instead. You should be able to right-click and copy the URL of the feed, then use it with your preferred feed reader.

What browser are you using @DeeMagie. Chrome does not display the feed reader, but you should see it in Firefox.

Is there any way to customize the RSS URL to only return a certain number of results? I've seen it done but it seems like it's a website-by-website thing, not a standardized URL format. Thanks!
