What will happen to Weebly Designer and Weebly Cloud now that Square is in charge?

The acquisition of Weebly by Square is both exciting and terrifying.

We have over 50 high-end clients we have built websites on Weebly for, many of which are customers who double as monthly marketing clients that pay us a reasonable retainer to manage their digital footprint.

I've actually feared an acquisition for quite some time, mostly because I've seen several of my favorite services come and go after being purchased, gutted, repurposed, and retired. The only problem now is that our entire business, employees, and customers, are dependent on the business we've built with Weebly at the center.

So, what will happen to Weebly Designer and Weebly Cloud now that Square is in charge?

What's everyone doing to prepare?

Hi @newyorkave. Thanks so much for reaching out. Weebly is not going anywhere and we will continue to offer our web building services as well as support for those services. There is a brief post regarding this here: https://www.weebly.com/blog/weebly-to-join-the-square-family and I'm sure more info will come as this progresses. Smiley Happy

I will tell you what is happening they want more money from us !!!!

I also run a designer platfrom not as large as yours but around 10 sites currently and looking to do more.

$299 a year flat fee is what they have quoted me

$8 a month pro

$20 a month business

Which maybe a larger user like you can swallow but that $299 a year is a killer for me.

Surely for new customers I can understand but when we have helped build this place over the years it feels like a kick in the teeth!

I know that they're moving toward flat fees plus the site fees but thought that was for new accounts going forward.

Do you mind sharing a snapshot of where you were told this? Thanks!

I too also fear what will happen to the designer platform with Square now in the mix.
