issue with printing online orders through Square

Hi,

I prefer using Square to print my online orders (I use printed orders for order filling) - as opposed to using Square Online to print orders. I like the formatting better in Square (vs. Square Online) for the printed version of the order. However, periodically, for reasons unknown, the header starts appearing on the printed orders. It's the header off the actual website. When this happens, it prints the header on every page and cuts off the first item on the second page. Instead of moving the first item downon the second page to accommodate the header, the website just places the header right over the first item so it is missing when printed out. As you can guess, this is a problem. I have no idea why it happens. I do believe it is on Square's end - because it has happened in the past - then just magically stopped doing it for a while - and now it is back. Any ideas? This is rendering the print order option in Square useless and forcing me to print orders in Square Online. Any insights are welcomed!

Hi Donnie-M, 

Yes. PC, dashboard, Chrome browser. As always. Those things haven't changed for years. But the issue comes and goes. I simply thought it had to do with some periodic kind of internal reconfigurations on Squares end. It finally annoyed me enough to inquire and ask if there is a way to get rid of the header when it does happen. Currently it's been going on for maybe a couple of weeks. Thanks!

@safsac I am pretty sure it might be your print driver that is causing the issue.  I played around with my settings and found if you look at the zoom it can affect how the header prints.  I changed my zoom to custom 67% and the pages printed great for me.

 

I think the issue is that square generates a page to print and calls for the print dialogue.  Depending on your printer/pc set up this can vary wildly and the printer driver.

 

You might also look at setting it up to e-mail new orders automatically.  I have an hp printer that has it's own email address and when something is sent it prints automatically.  But I would look at the print dialogue settings first.

Thanks Donnie-M. I've already messed with the printer set-up quite a bit trying to get this darn header to go away. I use both HP and Canon printers. No avail. Actually I always use custom scale settings that vary anywhere from 60-90% when printing my orders out. Doesn't change a thing as far as the stupid header goes. It is still there causing problems. If my orders are small (with 8 line items or less) there is no issue because i only need 1 page. It's the longer orders (9-lots) where the issue is - as soon as the order requires a second page to print, the first line item of the second page (or third page, etc) gets covered by the header. As you can imagine, having missing line items on an order is a problem. Not sure there is a fix for this other than waiting for the darn header to magically disappear again!

When you go to print the the online order do you get a Print dialog that has More Settings in the middle right?  Like in the top picture the More Settings it light grey since i have my mouse over it.  When it opens I get the second picture (bottom picture)

In the Bottom picture it is near the Top Right.  I clicked on it and got these settings in Chrome Browser.  Near the bottom it says Options - the one with a light grey circle Unchecked says Headers and Footers.  Since I do not use Square to print my Online Orders, I am not sure if your Print button goes through this type of Dialog box (window) or not.  Mine does when I print for my online store from another company. The top picture pops up so I can select which printer I want to use and I can also adjust more settings.   We have 2 printers connected to that computer, one for invoices etc and one is a 4x6 label printer for shipping labels.  This pop up screen pops up when ever we print an invoice / packing slip or we print a shipping label.
