importing to weebly from square

HI all

I've built my website using weebly and imported my store items using the 'import from square' function. It worked successfully and imported all items, images and categorized those items fine. I then had to re-do the categories as it didn't actually sit well with the structure, so I deleted all the categories and items to start again. This time though its imported all the items fine, but not the images or the categories.  i've tried refreshing the browser etc but its still not working. Any ideas?  Its a right pain have to go through every item and upload more images and re-categorize everything as I have 290 products!

thanks very much

Hi there @frondere, there's for your message and sorry for the delayed response.

From your original upload, are you sure the images also uploaded? With Squares CSV Item import tool, images will not be uploaded, they would need to be manually added after.

When using the import tool the formatting needs to be very accurate, on the second upload when you rejigged the categories if you moved anything around in the 'export file field' the Item Import will may not read the import properly.

If you haven't already, it's worth running through the troubleshooting steps outlined here as they usually help with any importing issue. Please also make sure to remove any comms from text you've added in the import file, as that can cause errors during the process.

If you've ran through everything and are still getting the same error, it's best to contact our Support team directly as that way, they can look into the account-specific settings and also help check the import file to troubleshoot further.

I hope this helps in some way!

so I've checked everything and its fine. The csv I uploaded was the one I downloaded from my squareup account. I've now used the import from square function but it still hasn't categorised everything or pulled through any images.  I'm also confused about how this updates my website if I add a new item in my square account.  Will it not now show on my website properly in the right category - I would expect it to if the two are supposed to be linked. or do I need to do something differently. I also can't see how to upload multiple images to weebly and use that a a library rather than having to upload every single image individually under every single item - that will take forever for the number of products I sell.  Its abit concerning for me that the two systems don't seem to talk to each other properly!

Hello @frondere, thanks for coming back to me on this.

To confirm here,

You have uploaded your item library from Weebly to your Square Dashboard by CSV.

The item images have not uploaded - this is expected as images will need to be manually uploaded, but they will sync from your Square Dashboard Item library to your Square Online Item Library as long as you have the sync enabled (Square Online > Items > Item sync > Sync item images)

In terms of the categories, categories do not sync from Square Dashboard to your Square Online Dashboard, you would need to recreate your categories in Square Dashboard > Items > Site categories

This Square Online Item Sync support article provides a deeper context of what does and does not sync from your item library to your online item library.

Let me know if I'm missing anything!

Hi Alegra

No I'm importing from square to Weebly....using the import from square function. I tried the CSV to start with.  So the first time I imported using 'import from square' it did allocate everything to a category. Now it doesn't.

My main concern is that if I put a new item into my square account, where I take payments, it seems that it won't automatically update my Weebly website. So if that's the case how does Weebly communicate with the square items log if I sell something in the shop using the square app and the Weebly online website. Do they not sync with each other??  And if that's the case how do I take payments in store so that my inventory is always synced.

Ok I'm still really confused by this. so - I have a weebly website. I now have a squareup profile which was created when I set up the weebly website. I didn't set up the square profile. I didn't even know it existed until yesterday.

I have an online presence where I sell items and I have a physical shop. If I sell an item in the shop how do I keep those items updated on the stock front on the website?? I've done a test run and I imported items to my weebly site via the import from square function but if I change something on square it doesn't update the item in weebly and visa versa. Is this not possible because if its not then that's going to be an absolute nightmare for keeping track of stock inventory.

Hi @frondere sorry for the confusion and the delay here!

So if you initially created your site on Weebly previously, this will not sync to your Square Online site. Weebly sites created prior to Square purchasing Weebly are not connected to a Square account/still use a different interface/is a blog, and we would refer to these as Weebly accounts since they function a bit differently from Square site.

You would need to create your items on your Square dashboard, from there those items inventory will sync with your Square online site, but not your Weebly legacy inventory.
