WHY DID YOU REMOVE THE OTHER/COMMENTS SECTION ON CUSTOMERS DIRECTORY?????? THIS IS INSANE. NOW WE CAN'T ADD ANY DATA AND WE CAN'T ACCESS OUR OLD DATA!!!!
Hello! The Other or Memo field was removed from the Customer Directory. This change was made gradually, and the Memo field was fully removed at the start of this year. It sounds like we should have notified everyone of this change and I’m very sorry for the confusion it has created recently. I’ll share your feedback with the Customer Directory team - thank you for bringing this to our attention!
You can still access any memos or other notes that were added to a client’s profile from the Square Dashboard:

Sign in and navigate to the Customers section.

Click Directory > then click Import/Export > A file will download to your computer and you’ll see your notes under a column called Memo or Other.
If you’d like the memos you added in the past to be restored on your clients’ profiles, reply here to let us know or call our CS team directly. A Directory specialist will be able to help!
From now on you can add a note to a client’s profile from the Point of Sale app:
- Tap the Customers section of the app > tap the name of a client.
- Scroll down > tap Add Note. (1,000 character limit)
- Enter your note and tap Save.
Or if you’d like to enter a note when you edit a customer’s profile you could create a custom fields from your Dashboard:
- Sign in to your online Square Dashboard > click Customers.
- Click Settings > then click Create Custom Field.
- Enter the name of the field (e.g. ‘Other’!) and choose the Field type ‘Text Input’ (100 character limit) or choose a different field type.
When you create a custom field it will be included as a column when you export your directory (Directory > Import/Export).

Hi there again @varnumvintners - Here's what the Product Team let me know: "The Seller can go into Customers and create a field. To do this go to Customers >Settings >Configure Profile >Create Custom Field."

There hasn't been an update to the Customer Directory recently but I'll check for you and I'll reply here as soon as I can to clarify what happened!

@Sean I also noticed this issue. After I merged 2 customers in the Customer Directory in the Dashboard, the Other section appeared with the system merge note. It seems to be a Square system field now. I was not able to Edit it.
Did I miss a big announcement that the Other field was going to be taken away from us?

This reply was created from merging an existing thread: Customer Other field
The customer 'Other' field is no longer able to be updated. It appears that the system was updated to enable users to enter multiple notes, which are now being dated. But I had information in the old notes field entitled 'Other', and now I cannot update nor delete its contents. Any suggestions?

Hey @ctmohio, I think the Best Answer in this thread will help. If you need some notes to be restored go ahead and call the CS Team. Phone support is available Monday-Friday 6am to 6pm PT.

The other searchable fields are phone number and email address. I tried merging some duplicates in my directory to see the entries in Other, but I couldn't find the section you were referring to.

How do I remove an existing "Other" Field note now that I can not access it? The Other field still shows in my directory and there is not way to edit the info in this field.

Is there a beta program for the desktop program? I'd love to help you keep from making stupid changes that are unnecessary. For instance, why the latest change to the Customer profile screen. After randomly moving phone and email address around a few months ago, you've now eliminated the comments field where I had been storing data. Plus, the tab key no longer seems to move from field to field. Huh?

If you're having trouble accessing any notes or comments you entered to a customer profile please call our CS team. A Directory specialist can help you to access that information. They'll be able to determine if the tab key issue you mentioned is a bug!
I'm so sorry for the trouble these changes caused. New features are tested thoroughly but I agree an opt-in beta program would have been really useful in this case. We've shared a bit more information about the Customer Directory updates in this thread, so I've moved your post here.
