Why does my online site show as 'not secure'?

I recently purchased a domain from square space and waited the 24-48 hrs for the site to update and clear the not secure message, however it has been weeks since that and I'm very confused because otherwise I followed all steps on the community support threads. I'd appreciate any support and advice.
