[The title of this thread has been edited from the original: Free reader from Square]
I received an email promising me a free reader when I finish signing up for Square. Once here on the website it tells me that I would get a $10.00 credit making the reader free. However, that did NOT happen, it still is trying to charge me a $10.00 fee for the reader. This is why I haven't completed my sign up with Square; things just don't seem to be right here and I'm worried that I'll have problems with dealing with them.
Hey @SOLC!
Thanks for writing in the Seller Community. Sorry this has been a frustrating process thus far.
When you're logged into the new Square account, please try the following steps:
- Select Send me a reader.
- Select Connectivity.
- Complete checkout process.
If that doesn't work, please let me know by replying back in this thread.

Hi there, @shopquoin - so sorry for the trouble here.
Is it possible that you have activated a Square Account with us in the past? All new users are given the chance to order a free Magstripe Reader during the activation process, but our system does recognize if someone has more than one account and has ordered a reader before.
If not, please try ordering this way:
http://squ.re/readerrequest > "Send me a reader" > Select Connectivity > complete checkout process
If that doesn't work, please let us know!

Hey @Shamiel,
Thanks for joining the Community, and I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble ordering your free reader.
When you tried to place an order for the free reader were you logged into your account?

Same for me. I signed up a while back in anticipation of opening my restaurant. I wasn't ready for a reader at that particular moment so I never ordered the reader. Now, a year later, I go back into my account and don't have access to the free reader even though I'm ready for it. How is this supposed to work? I tried ordering it thinking that at some point there would be a discount code added or something but I got all the way to clicking pay and was about to be charged the $10 for the reader plus tax. Am I being penalized because I signed up before I was ready for it and now that I am ready for it the offer is no longer available? That seems a little dumb to me.

Same, absolutely, what 5 years later and they haven't solved the problem? It makes me extremely wary to use this service at all. I never got the reader, they canceled my order right away, which I thought was just them not processing a payment because it was free, and a week later by the time I finally got through to customer service, they just told me it wasn't coming and they didn't say why. They said I was free to go buy one. I had a very simple question why can't I have the free one? And they still haven't answered me. Sketch. aF.
Same here. They sent me a headset jack reader automatically when I signed up years ago...but my phone case (as did most heavy duty ones at the time), didn't allow for it to connect, so I never used it. Fast forward many years, and I need a Lightning Reader ONLY because certain cards don't have tap to touch...and the 2 Contactless/Chip readers that I have CONSTANTLY disconnect and no longer work properly after a few years of light use. I contacted Square and spent a LOOOOOOng time on the phone with someone who wouldn't replace my readers, but claimed to help me "fix" them after rebooting. They still don't work properly (Square SHOULD send me 2 new ones free as replacements), and I have no option for a free Lightning Reader. Do better Square!
