Where did the "Edit" button go?

Is anyone else missing the "edit" button from the home screen on app?  It was there 10 minutes ago..  ???

Update: In the latest update of Square Register, we introduced the "Quick Create Items for Sale" feature to address everyones feedback. This feature will allow you to create an item "on the fly," and then it will automatically be added to your sale. This not only saves you a step, it gives back the functionality everyone in this thread enjoyed. This feature has been rolled out to every seller.

The Items applet was a feature that was released recently for iPads, as you all have noticed. As a bit of background, this feature debuted on Square Register for Android devices more than a year ago. This latest update for the iPad version of Square Register brought our software into line with one another. Our Product Team did consider how this could cause a little bit of confusion, so we included a post-update pop-up for sellers.  From the sounds of it, it seems like the biggest issue is the lack of ability to search by SKU inside the Item's applet. This has been a popular feature request for quite some time now, and even brought to our attention in another community thread. It sounds like a workaround was to add the item to a current sale, and then to edit it. I didn't even think of this work around when I responded in the other thread! I can definitely see how this has created extra work for many of you, and I'm very sorry for the inconvenience.  

 

We have been in touch with our Product team about this change, and they agreed that this is feedback that they definitely want to address. In regards to the ability to search for items using the barcode scanner, they've increased the priority of this bug to get this addressed ASAP. As far as adding the ability to create items from a current sale, we'll continue to discuss a path forward that addresses your concerns for ease of editing. I'll be sure to update this thread if I hear anything more .

This change is definitely way more time consuming. I agree, whoever made this change obviously does not work with it. Change it back, please!!

This was handled as poorly as one could imagine. I got nothing regarding this update.  I opened my store, and stood befuddled in front of my customer, as I had no idea how to change the price of the piece of art she was purchasing. There was no pop-up. There was no advance notice. Just a retailer with egg on his face.  And of course now a simple change that we make daily is more difficult. Thanks for absolutely nothing.

@CCC2513 - I also wanted to follow up and let you know that the only reason I marked my response as "Best Answer" was so it would be easy to see since there were a lot of comments in the thread. The comment marked as "Best Answer" floats to the top, as well as adds a green checkbox next to the thread when searching in the community. I went ahead and removed this designation and just verified the response. Thanks for the feedback.

Please, Sean, help us get the Edit Button back! It was one of the best features you had. I am not happy. I have always loved the simplicity of the Square Register and to have the button just disappear was a huge surprise and very upsetting. No warning. I though maybe I had done something wrong and spent time trying to fix it. By the way, the instructions you have on the website to answer questions about setting up items is now WRONG because you have changed it.

@clevelandmarket - While this isn't currently an option, you can use the Item's tab to create and manage your Item library. Check out my verified response for more details.

A work around, in  Register back to the main menu and find the  Items menu then (All Items), here is most of the previous functionality: Create Item as well as the ability to change a existing item in the system. Unfortunately you can not search here by the BarCode# or us your BarCode Scanner to pull up an item, that would be a nice fix. Actually it was too easy get into the edit menu when you were checking someone out, so I do like it better here, but communication about changes should be a priority, and it would be nice if Square two products on the App Store, an App that is the Previous version as well as the bleeding edge current product.

Hello Square User's

I share your pain, I posted on this thread yesterday.  I want to let EVERYONE know that there is a NEW product manger at Square responsible for database, she emailed me yesterday and we spent 30-minutes on the phone today.  

 

I believe we will get our "Add Item" "+" button back in the VERY near future.  She totally understood how this is impacting businesses such as ours who have unique items & pricing.

Just to clarify, our product team is actively investigating a solution that addresses everyones' concerns, but it's not certain exactly what that solution looks like at this point (i.e.: bringing the edit button back, or something even better). Once we have more information from product, we’ll be sure to let you know, but wanted to set the right expectations. Thanks!

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm consignment and have one of everything and I add at least 30 new items a day. I add each item to my sale, then remove it after. My app is actually crashing because the items screen and the register screen aren't fully connecting. I'm having items showing up on the register screen that I deleted and the app then crashes.

I'm sorry, I don't want to be rude but, here is my honest feedback.

I've been with Square for a while now. With the new latest update where you CANNOT edit an item from the register page and have to navigate to the "item library". I HATE THIS THIS SO MUCH. It is so much of an inconvenience. My reasons:

- BEFORE: When I get a new shipment of inventory, previously, I can be at the register page and scan an item if it's in the system it shows up, gives me the price and I print out a price tag for the item.

NOW: If I'm in the item library, if I scan an item it does NOTHING. So I have to now navigate to the register page, scan the item and it shows me the price. OTHERWISE from the item library I have to manually type in the item number to bring it up so it shows me the item, since I cannot scan the barcode nothing happens. WASTE OF TIME.

- If I'm on the "item library" tab and if I need to EDIT an item, such as tax settings or price. I type in the item number or name since again I cannot scan it for it to come up and when the item appears in the library, I tap on the item and NOTHING happens!! On occasion if I'm LUCKY the item will open the edit settings but, for some reason most of the time it doesn't do anything, I just keep tapping the item like a maniac and nothing is happening. So FRUSTRATING!

Furthermore - I do NOT understand why I am not able to add inventory count from the app itself, why do I have to login to Square through a web browser to do this??!!!! It is so inconvenient!! Also, why am I not able to input COGS (cost of goods) for my items so I can track net profit. Tracking inventory and net profit is absolutely NECESSARY for a business!!! All this time and these two so valuable statistics for a business and it is not in Square!! Why???

Yes, where did the edit feature go??? It's stupid that I can edit in my phone app but not on the iPad running my register at the sales counter!
