What Happened to the Sales tax Y/N in my Catalog export?

I have been with Square since 2019, I setup items with Sales Tax and some that are non taxable.  Today when I scanned an item that should NOT have sales tax, I saw Sales tax.  This was for clothing.  When I set up the item in Square the was a toggle switch for Taxable or Not.   I even had a column in the Catalog export Column V with Header of " Tax - Sales Tax (6%)".  The cells below would have a "Y" or "N"  I no longer have this column and no longer have the ability to turn off the PA-Sales tax which says for ALL ITEMS.   What Changed and Why was there no notice of this change?   When did it change?   Have I been charging sales tax on items that should not be taxed because of Square changing my settings unknowingly to me?  I just tried to go to a Non taxable Item to turn off sales tax of 6% it is Greyed out and there is no Non Taxable way to fix this in the Tax field.  If I turn Off sales tax all my items have no sales tax..... How do I fix this?   Was going to in my Catalog.csv file and switch "Y" to "N" but there is no longer that column to make this change!!!!

As of 3-1-2023 my headers for my Catalog.CSV last Column shows Sales Tax :

Reference HandleTokenItem NameVariation NameUnit and PrecisionSKUDescriptionCategoryGTINPriceSellableStockableOption Name 1Option Value 1Default Unit CostDefault Vendor NameDefault Vendor CodeCurrent Quantity Pocono CandleNew Quantity Pocono CandleStock Alert Enabled Pocono CandleStock Alert Count Pocono CandleTax - Sales Tax (6%)

As of 4-26-2023 My headers for the catalog are missing Column V Sales Tax:

Reference HandleTokenItem NameVariation NameUnit and PrecisionSKUDescriptionCategoryGTINPriceSellableStockableOption Name 1Option Value 1Default Unit CostDefault Vendor NameDefault Vendor CodeCurrent Quantity Pocono CandleNew Quantity Pocono CandleStock Alert Enabled Pocono CandleStock Alert Count Pocono Candle

Stops at Stock Alerts ???

Now how do I go back and TURN OFF sales tax for untaxable Items????

If I go to My T-shirts which use to not have SALES TAX enabled they now show 6% Sales Tax along with a Greyed out box when I select the Tax box and I can not UNCHECK the 6% sales tax.  I tried creating sales Tax Exempt of 0% and all this does is give 6% sales tax Plus 0% Exempt still can not turn off The PA Sales Tax    any ideas?????

Screen shots below of what I see now.:

T-shirt showing Tax.jpg

If I click the Drop down where it says TAXES   Pa Sales Tax I get the below image:

taxes greyed out.jpg

Here there is a Check in PA Sales Tax and I can not UNCHECK it.

I saw I can uncheck all items in my Tax Setting but I do not wanna go through 6000 plus Items re-enabeling tax items on 5800-5900 items 1 at a time!!!!!   This all worked fine from 2019 up till ???? Sometime this YEAR of 2023!!!

Roll this BACK too along with the partial roll back of Update 6.14.1 that I am still dealing with!!

UPDATE :

As of 5-4-2020 Column V in my Export to Toggle Tax to either Y / N is back.     Still a pain to enable it or disable it on Square Dashboard or when Creating an Item but at least I can edit it here.

This may have been fixed before this date but I only last looked at it right before posting the initial Thread on Sunday 4-30-2023.

Thought for Square Inventory Team:

When Creating an Item The TAX box could have a Drop Down for Selecting Multiple Taxes that were setup in the Business Section or a selection of NO tax or Tax Off for example.

This way when we create a New item on the Dashboard we can Press the Drop Down Box of Taxes and Choose which ones to have applied or None at all.  Before we had that ability for Sales tax ---- or No Sales Tax which I understand some areas now need Multiple Taxes applied not just one tax rate. But this way we could do it when creating a few items instead of having to remember the New Items we just created and search for them. Like when Scanning an Item on The Square Stand that was not found and we need to Create the New Item my Tax rate is being Applied automatically checked Blue and so is Apply Tax. I select Apply Tax and the Blue Check goes away and the item is Tax Free when it is created.  Love this On the Ipad Screen in a Stand. Make this for when creating items in the Dashboard it the Items Tax box that is Greyed out for my Current sales tax.  Something like that on the Item Creation Page instead of going into Setting, Settings, taxes, search for the item, turn off the tax.  Then go to the Items page to create another Item that may or may not need taxes.  This should be a simple fix since you already have Drop Downs to select 1 or more Items at a time or variations etc.  Then on the Spreadsheet in Excel you can add another sheet in the workbook for these Taxes if people have them.   So main Catalog Page ITEMS just has Y Or N for Taxes to be applied and then New additional sheet (Tax Rates) for example has  Headers of Name of Tax Rate so we can have the ability to easily add them here also. Similar to your Units and Conversation or Components sheets.

Called Square Support:

How do I take taxes off an item:

From Dashboard - Settings -Business Settings - Sales Tax-

Select taxes for Items---- Select ALL Items -   Then search for items to remove taxes-

When I select all and search for Fudge, I can uncheck so Tax is not applied to Fudge, Save and then Square reports Tax is enabled for 100 items....   I have over 6000 items removed Tax on Fudge  should be showing Tax for 5998 items..... look up a 28oz jar candle which USE to have Sales TAX is now UNTAXED!!!    Why can't this be like it use to be where I could enable Sales Tax Y or N on the item in question???

This is terrible that Square adjusted my Tax settings with NO word or solution how to fix this.   EVEN from calling support they say they will escalate this...... but how long will this take and was told this is the NEW IMPROVED way Square has this setup but no solution to fix this problem.  Even if Squares Drop down for Taxes, I could select Multiple Taxes or Disable them all together in the Item and then have Rules setup up under Business Settings Taxes this would work.

Next issue:

Followed Supports instructions to Select all Items to be Taxed then Search for ones to turn Tax off for.  Saved and walked away because a customer needed assistance.  Come back and then I get to Select all for Taxes or Select None Items.

Well earlier today I selected ALL then Removed Whole sale a few clothing Items and Fudge.  Realized I forgot or missed scarves, and Square is stating only the 100 or so items are marked for Tax even though almost 6000 items should be.  Now I can Select ALL again or Select none for taxes to be applied..... so basically I am back to where I was before I called Support.  I am not sure why this is only applying Sales Tax to my first 254 items and Not ALL (approximately 6000 - 30 or so)even when I click apply tax to ALL items.  For me to remove them from about 30 items.
