What Can I Do About Spoof Emails?

The title of this thread has been edited by a Square Moderator from the original: "Over the last few weeks it seams i am getting a spoof email every day. I anything being done?"

Over the past few weeks it seams that i get spoof emails every day. Is anything being done to stop these annoying fake emails? As my busy season approaches they could become a problem. Should i be changing my password often. I have managed to identify them every time.

Thanks for your response. It just seems that the number of spoofs has increased recently.

Hi @Blackfin9

I've had some spoof emails before myself.   But you can forward them to spoof@squareup.com to report the incident. Do not include any other information in the email you forward. The appropriate team will investigate and take action if needed.

Hi @Blackfin9 - Thanks for reaching out to us here on the Square Seller Community👋

There was a known issue earlier this week where some Square Merchants were receiving old email notifications. This might be related to what you were experiencing. The good news is, this issue has now been resolved!

You can always double-check if the email truly came from Square by looking at the sender's email address. All emails from us will end with squareup.com. If you are ever unsure about an email, you can follow the spoof forwarding process as @Minion mentioned and our team will take a closer look.

I hope this information is helpful but please do let us know if you have any additional questions.

I just tried this and got a "Message Blocked" reply. So... spoof@squareup.com actually rejects forwarded emails. Their system is broken..!

Re spoof@squareup.com, I'm trying to forward email suspected spoof emails but my emails keep bouncing back with the message below.  Can you advise how I can reach the Spoof team???

Security or policy settings at squareup.com have rejected your message.

Security or policy violation

How to Fix It

The recipient's email server won't accept your message because it appears to violate their security or policy settings. Check the Reported error below to see if you can determine why it was blocked. Then try one or more of the following:

·        If the error mentions SPF, DKIM, or DMARC issues, forward this message to your email admin for assistance.

·        The recipient's email server might suspect that your message is spam. Follow the guidance in this article: E-mailing Best Practices for Senders. Then resend your message.

·        If the error suggests your message is too large, try to reduce the size of your attachment. If that isn't possible, place the file on a publicly accessible cloud storage location, like OneDrive. Then add a link to the file in your message, and resend the message.

·        Contact the recipient (by phone, for example) and tell them to ask their email admin to add you or your email domain to their allowed senders list.

If the problem continues, forward this message to your email admin. If you're an email admin, refer to the More Info for Email Admins section below.
