Tips for employees clocked in

Why on earth would square payroll not allow credit card tips be split based on the employee(s) clocked in?? It only splits them by how many hours worked in a day which is preposterous. This is unbelievably inconvenient to have to go in manually to see which employed were clocked in by hour and split them manually. It would be such easy functionality to implement and does not make sense the way they have it now. Only the employees clocked in during a particular time segment should split the tips during that time segment, not pool the entire day and split it by hours worked, this is illegal and isn't accurate for taxes

Thanks for posting in the Seller Community. Right now, we've got two types of Pooling Intervals to select:

 

  1. Pay Period: Square Payroll will include all tips collected for the entire pay period and split them based on hours worked per employee.
  2. Workday: Square Payroll will include all tips collected for a workday and split them based on the employees who have hours for the day.

You can also manually input your employees tips when processing payroll, which it sounds like you've been doing in the meantime. Square Payroll currently supports tip importing by pooling and splitting tips or paying the tips directly to the team member who collected the tip. If you are pooling and splitting tips by another method. At this time, Square Payroll does not support the following tip importing features or methods:

 

  1. By shift
  2. Deducting credit card processing fee from tips
  3. Auto-gratuity with Square for Restaurants
  4. Tips from online store sales
  5. Importing tips for salaried team members
  6. Contractor tip importing

We appreciate your feedback on this, and will make sure to pass it along to the Payroll Product Team. Insight like this is very helpful for Product Teams to see why alternative tip distribution methods would be helpful.  I will post any updates on Payroll Tip importing methods in this thread as I receive them.

My credit card tip out for my employees is not coming out accurately... An employee can be clocked in but it will not always accurately allocate all of her credit card tips, only if the receipt screen says her name under 'Card Payment' . But they can be clocked in and their name not show for several transactions into their shift and they can miss out on $5-$20. How to avoid this?

Again, I've spoken with support multiple times in the past three months and no one has offered any kind of solution apart from transferring me to a payroll specialist just to to told I need to be transferred back to square m, no help at all.
