The following action results in a ‘Failed Restock Attempt’ warning on a Square Terminal.
Scenario: Team passcodes not allowed. Team members are allowed to access transactions and perform refunds, but not allowed to access Items.
Logged on to Terminal as a team member with user id and password.
When performing a refund the warning ‘Failed Restock Attempt’ occurs at the end of the process. Checking the item stock level confirms this.
Workarounds:
1. Allow team members to have Item access. This allows team members to have far more control of items than desirable.
But It is my preferred option.
2. Allow team passcodes, logon as the manager, then switch to team member access.
Not my preferred option because team members need to know the team member passcode in case they accidentally press ‘Login’. I need to keep it simple for the 30 team members! I am not concerned with monitoring individual users. They are all unpaid volunteers.
I have investigated this thoroughly and feel it deserves a fault report.
If a team member is allowed to perform refunds on a Square Terminal then restocking must occur in all situations, regardless of whether they have Item access.

Hi @Mike_C, thank you for sharing this! I've escalated this to the appropriate team so they can look into this further as well. Once I have more information from the team, I'll be sure to follow up on this thread.
In the meantime, if all team members are on the same permission set and you are not looking to track individual's sales, they should be able to login using the same team passcode. That way, they'd only need to keep track of the one passcode.
