Square stand charging problem

My square stand battery keeps beeping.   The charge icon in the corner keeps going from charging to not charging every second.  I assumed it was a connectivity issue, so I unplugged and plugged back in.   I tried everything and still beeping.

Be sure you iPad is firmly connected to the Square Stand. If the charge light is not on, try pushing in where the iPad connection to the Stand is and see if it lights up. My iPad did the same thing but now I just check that connection everyday to be sure it is firmly connected. Hope this helps.

I am on my fourth square stand in two years and the fifth is on its way because of the charging issues with this hardware.  When my fourth stand arrived today,  I plugged it in, hooked up my iPad, and BEEP BEEP BEEP CHARGING-NOT CHARGING BEEP BEEP BEEP.  With the stand right out of the box, I expected it to work for at least a few weeks, but no such luck.  I know it's not my iPad connection, becaure my iPad charges flawlessly on an Apple cable.  Bottom line, the square stand looks slick but it's junk, and it's costing me sales and customers because my clerks cannot process credit cards on their phones like I can.  Their phones don't support the software.

 

I guess SquareUp bought a zillion of these defective stands and won't get reliable replacements until stock of the junk runs out.  Sadly, they're going to be running out of businesses like mine who rely on 99% up-time.  I liked Squares software, reporting, and simplicity, but there's a host of other card processing services out there, some with better rates and free printers.

@woodmouse, We have been using the same Square Stand for several years now and have no problems at all. The only suggestions I have would be after you insert your ipad into the Stand before your press firmly in the corner to be sure you see that the battery icon is showing that it is charging. Sometimes I have to push it in a bit firmer to be sure the connection is in place. I have another Square Stand at home that I use when we update something so I can be sure that everything looks and rings correctly and we have no problems with that Stand either. I wouldn't give up just yet, with the tens of thousands of Stands out there not having problems it may just be something small that you are not doing correctly. Keep playing around, I'm sure you'll find the solution.

Thanks, Ron, but I have pushed and shimmed the iPad against the charging port to no avail.  😞

What troubleshooting have you tried thus far?

 

It might be best to walk through your connection and setup with our Support Team. They should be able to figure out what's causing the issue.

Yikes - so at least I see that this is common and not just our stand - although i have to admit we transport ours among various staff folks and areas in the organization so it could be user-related.  Hmmmm, next one, maybe we'll not move around so much as the connections seem a tad delicate. Now on H O L D with support to confirm and re-order a new one. No fun to wait, but the music is the Beatles so whatever : )

I just received my stand the other day, worked great for less than a week then just now all of a sudden it started the beeping of charging not charging. I’ve gone through unplugging & reconnecting everything & it’s continuing the constant beeping. Will I be needing to order a new stand ??

That sounds frustrating!

 

Have you tried making sure the lightning connector pin on the Square Stand hasn't been bent inward? I've seen this cause some connectivity issues and result in the flickering of the charge symbol like you're describing.

Hi Mike,

I have gone through 2 square stands, and also have replaced the USB hub/power supply & card reader twice!

You are right , they are junk. I love the software, payroll etc but this is costing me $$ as well dealing with charging issues, printing issues and connectivity issues every other week. Maybe Square should have a warranty on these stands??? I am sick of spending more money to keep my credit card business alive. I went to go get  my 3rd one at Staples and they now sell them for $169!! it used to be $99! wtf??

I decided to not spend another $200...as of now we are taking orders thru Ipad, using paper tickets, and using the stupid little magstripe.

I had a same problem, went thru three different stand, but after I updated the iPad iOS, the problem was resolved..

I am having same problem right now app and iOS are updated. All connections are good. Keeps cycling through connected disconnected. Charging not  charging. 

We have rebooted router. iPad. Etc. 

Frustrating to no end.

Hello All, 

 

My square stand was working great today until we attempted to move the unit.  Now, the square stand will not charge the iPad (but the iPad is charging when plugged into a charger) and none of the accessories are connecting.  We just bought the unit a few weeks ago, so I was hoping it was not the cables.  I attempted all of the troubleshooting methods to no avail, even attempting to move the unit back where it originally was working and it does not charge there either. 

 

Anyone else have any ideas?
