Square Terminal & Kitchen Printer Wifi Extender

Hi all,

I am in the process of setting up a kitchen printer. Our kitchen is on another floor and at the other side of our building to where our Square Terminal and router currently live.

I have configured the printer to work via an ethernet cable and Wifi Extender as our Star SP700 takes only an ethernet connection. However, I have found that my Square Terminal and SP700 need to be on the same network in order for the terminal to find the printer in our hardware settings.

I was just hoping for some advice on whether or how it would be possible to have my Square Terminal connected to the original router network and the printer connected via the ethernet to our Wifi Extender which will live in the kitchen with the printer.

We will eventually be having an ethernet connection wired in to the building so we can be rid of the extender but this may not happen for a short while due to the amount of work needed.

Any help, tips and tricks would be greatly appreciated.
TIA,
Liam

Hi Liam @BostonArmsShef, welcome to the Seller Community!

In fact, the devices you want to connect with the printer have to be on the same wi-fi network to find it when creating a printer station. Let me check with my team if there is any workaround.

@BostonArmsShef Is your WiFi Extender creating a separate network? If so, you may want to look into a 3 pack mesh router system like the Google Wifi. There will be only one network created for the three devices. Even when you run ethernet to where you need to later on, you can plug the Google Wifi via ethernet for even a better connection (called an ethernet backhaul). This is what we do, and it works great.

Hey @BostonArmsShef, thank you for your patience, just stepping in for Emma here. The setup @TCSlaguna mentioned might work well for you, as the most important aspect of using ethernet printers with Square Hardware is that they are all connected to the same network.

Let me know if you have any more questions.
